The Down Under Lounge

We had a huge storm the other day. I was sitting on my porch enjoying the change when suddenly the lightening and thunder crash shook the whole house, I couldn't run in fast enough.

25mm rain in the last 24 hours. Add that to the 20-ish over the last couple of weeks. Just hope there’s more in a few weeks

Been raining up here too. Hope it makes it to the inland water systems... and then isn't stolen by the bastard greedy cotton barons!

On a lighter note..

It’s been impossible to buy a damper for Australia Day for a few years. Doesn’t anybody eat it anymore? The person at the bakery didn’t even know what a damper was.

Obviously was never a YMCA explorer in the late 70s/ear;y 80s or joined the scouting movement :)

Though I don't think I've ever seen it sold commercially. People tend to make their own (I know I have a couple in of recopies in my files)

It's easy to make even I have recipes for it but I've only ever done it once or twice as I wasn't happy with the results. I don't think you can buy it anywhere either.

In the 80s and 90s we used to get one from the supermarket. The last few years however we’ve had to make our own.

When my children were young and I was short of money we would eat homemade soup and damper for dinner. I always made my own damper.

So, the Aussie's being evacuated from China will be going to the detention centre on Xmas Is. I would be much happier, if they are going to do that, that they evacuate the family from Biloela back to the mainland, as they should have done all along.

Then it gets worse.

scummo & co what Australians to pay $1000 towards their flight out of Wuhan (hard luck if they had a return flight paid for) then after 2 weeks on Christmas Island they'll be flown to Perth and have to make their own way home.

That really is bloody terrible.

What's he trying to do, kickstart the economy by people using the Indian-Pacific?
