The Down Under Lounge

Actually @Australis I think you should set it in Cornwall. You'd have beautiful scenery, a beach to fall back on (and maybe the living fire can EMERGE FROM THE WATER at some crucial, horrifying moment) and you could have that whole backcountry abandoned by London vibe. Rural nouse needed.

You can thank me for this idea by having fireys scoffing down teacakes while sooting up the local.

Hahaha..... I like the notion of the fire coming out of the water. That actually would look cool and horrifying.

Can some-one recommend a reputable organisation that can be donated to for bush fire relief (if possible in S.A).

White guy makes a comment about blowing up a Qantas plane and they had to turn around and land so he could be arrested but he gets off on bail and a court date, I wonder what would happen if it wasn't a white guy?

Racially biased justice system I think.

No offence, Australis, but no. Just no.

So are any of us even slightly surprised that NewsCorpse has been misrepresenting the facts about the role of arson in the ongoing fire nightmare? It's great that so many real news organisations have pointed out the lies of the Murdoch crowd, but that it's even necessary is beyond pathetic. That so many people will believe the NewsCorpse crap regardless of the facts is appalling, and (sadly) not the least bit surprising. What marvellous times we live in.

I am really sorry. As much as it pains me, since this is obviously such a good cause, we are not allowed to post links directly to fundraising sites. As such, I have removed your links. The organization names are still in the post, so hopefully anyone who is interested can still find the appropriate pages with the help of Google. Alternatively, PMs would also be an option.

I can scarcely imagine what all of you are going through in the midst of all the devastation that is currently happening. Best wishes to all of you, and I hope you and your families stay safe.

So sad to hear of another White Island volcano death. That poor woman to lose her daughter and now husband. I hope her surviving daughter can recover but it sounds very bad :(

Sydney is terrible. I feel so bad for them but the skyline looks so horrible there right now. I wonder how long it will take to clear up when and if the fires are all gone.

Take care, Melburnians. Get some masks or air filters. Everything's fine on the Sunny Coast for now. Hope we get some winds and rains all over the place soon.

The Premier of Tasmania has resigned. Says it's for family, but as often in such cases I wonder.

I hope that the resigning Premier of Tasmania is the last of his dynasty to go into politics. Three generations of Hodgman politicians is enough.

I will have to stay inside today because of the smoke over Hobart. I have some masks but I don’t think it is bad enough yet to use them.

Unless he's trying to get ahead of some scandal which might break

I was a little puzzled when, on the Sunshine Coast Community Board FB page, someone posted a pic of some insects and asked, :What are they?" and the reaction was "Yes!" Because they were flying ants, and around here they are only on the move like that when there's plenty of rain coming. Which turned out to be the case. Noice.
