The Down Under Lounge

I am getting a little bit of flak because I stated that a person on a disability pension who donates $50 to to bushfire relief is being more generous that Andrew Forrest who is giving $70 million.

I cannot stand Twiggy Forrest.

Just ignore them.

To Twiggy Forrest 50 million is loose change so his donation while worthwhile means very little to someone on a low income who gave the amount that they could give.

I am not sure how true this is

I saw some of the comments online today with it. I decided on staying out of the comments with it. He is still better than other rich people like the Murdochs and Rinehearts, but that isn't hard.

I'm coming up to 18 years on the board later this month. It has changed a lot.

rhinehart seems happy with her $4.5 mil to the ipa so she can fight against dealing with climate change.

I dunno Miss C, the optics of the Cobargo photo op-- I mean, compassionate concern and checking of welfare, looked pretty bad.

Now, semi-related question.

For at least 10m years I've had an idea that I want to turn into a movie script, but I've never been sure if the time is right or not. This year, more than ever. Could be really good or seen as very crass.

Premise: as a country town, isolated in the Great Dividing Range is gearing up to fight a bad fire coming towards them, a mad scientist/wizard type has come to warn them it will be very difficult. In some news reports IRL witnesses say, "The fire acted like a living thing!" Well... what if it was? And it hibernates? And each year gets stronger? And has developed a taste for burning flesh? Maybe an old fire god brought from another land?

It would definitely be an action/horror script. The title, for now, would be Too Late To Leave.

Too soon? Too on the nose? Too close to the bone?

This would work fine if it wasn't set in Australia. I think a lot of people would react negatively otherwise.

Yes I'd agree with that maybe set it somewhere else because setting it here would be too raw for a lot of people. Maybe since it's living fire have it in a location where the likelihood of it happening is very remote..

Actually @Australis I think you should set it in Cornwall. You'd have beautiful scenery, a beach to fall back on (and maybe the living fire can EMERGE FROM THE WATER at some crucial, horrifying moment) and you could have that whole backcountry abandoned by London vibe. Rural nouse needed.

You can thank me for this idea by having fireys scoffing down teacakes while sooting up the local.
