The Down Under Lounge

I saw Mark Humphries in there. I don't know if that was specially shot, or it came from somewhere else.

The match is well-poised, but I think India has the edge. A couple more wickets and the Aussies are staring down the barrel on the last day.

It looks like Cardinal Pell might have been found guilty of child sex abuse. However details are sketchy because before the trial the court issued a suppression order to Australian media.

I don't understand the use of suppression orders here. I knew about this story in the middle of yesterday because I read papers outside of Australia. Why ban news of it here, and yes I know it could conceivably prejudice a trial but it's not likely is it?

I was reading about this on reddit for instance.

Aus reddit has deleted and locked the topic. And yes he's been convicted!

Whirlpool.net.au did the same with the thread mark it was pending legal advice.

Must be tricky for those sites given the discussion had been ongoing.

Didn't read the article but the ABC reported pell had been removed from a council that advised the pope (and iirc he was also a cardinal involved in the selection of the new pope).

tony Abbott will be heartbroken.

I was born in Scotland (so, can't run for Parliament!)

I was thinking about my parents and how much I missed them, and how, when I was first born, they had a little corner store/dairy place (which Dad actually built), but I never knew exactly where. When Mum passed away I got a bunch of photos from her, and they include a couple of me with her and my grandmother "opposite our store" and another saying a name of a "dairy". So I used Google street view, wandered around the town (virtually)... and realised the place I'd actually landed at was the shop. The photo of Mum and I exactly match the building across the road. An emotional moment. And the shop across the road... is now a garden shop, though it still appears on the map as a dairy.

My goal now is to get my act together, get some money, and stand on that same spot.

I had to come here and tell it because I have no one else to tell.

@Australis you might try looking for a facebook group connected to your birth town and posting about the dairy and your parents. There's probably a historical fb group for the area or town itself if big enough. I'd imagine there are some that remember the place and have photos.
