The Down Under Lounge

Yeah, heard this epression years ago. Clive James did a nice inversion when he talked about a priest being caught up min the chanting as "cant-struck".

Both of those people seem... pretty horrible, actually.

Got a few mates who at cunt-struck.

Funny thing is, they're all alpha males, big physically strong guys who like to lord it over other males, yet they're COMPLETELY under the thumb of moaning, whingeing, bitching harridans who make their lives a misery.

And then they have the gall to complain when I tell them my partner and I are going once again to the US on a theme park/roller coaster holiday or we're having a party to celebrate BTTF Day!

I mean, and this is COMPLETELY SERIOUS - I asked one friend if I should also buy him a ticket for the midnight screening of TFA on Dec. 16th and....get this.....he, as a 31 year old man told me he had a weekday curfew of 9:30pm!

FUCK THAT SHIT!!!!!

I'd be ASHAMED to admit that to a friend!!!

Grow some friggin balls and put those stupid women in their place!

If these are so called alpha males, then a lot of people are probably on the receiving end of their FIGJAM schtick. It's karma. Or another way to put it, they need someone with their own drive and self-belief to stand up to them, otherwise they'd get walked over. I've seen bad women, but they were individuals, just as there are bad men. You can't generalise.

Moving on, and speaking of strong women...

I didn't realise Australian academic (and distant cousin to Angela) Coral Lansbury was Malcolm Turnbull's mother, who in effect abandoned him for a career in media and academia.

I understand the the "c-struck" comment was already raised in the thread in relation to a news story, but no one was asking for your personal anecdotes about your friends and your opinion of the women in their lives. That was way out of line and misogynistic and is not welcome in Miscellaneous or anywhere else on this board.

You've earned an Infraction, filed under Other. Comments to PM.

Steve Bradbury won gold because he was the only one clever enough to stay on his feet.

Certainly A NATIONAL HERO.

The more I read about the murders of Karlie Pearce-Stevenson and her little daughter Kandalyce the sadder and angrier I become.

Whoever killed that little girl deserves life, never to be released.

^ Well, you know my opinion on the death penbalty: it should be used very rarely, and I am notif favour of it (really), but for this case...

On other topics.

Abbott is in the UK giving a speech to the EU saying they should close their borders to all refugees, that they should not be so generous, and they should "stop the boatsd". It is worth noting this is the Margaret Thatcher Lecture. I think this is a terrible thing, and he has now to me reset his status to 'vile'.

Can we cancel his citizenship/permanent visa, so he's forced to stay in his country of birth, like that bike bloke stuck in Malta? That would be a good thing for this country.

Apparently he thinks he can come back as PM. Delusion plus.

I arrived home to find to find the NBN guys laying cable to my house only 6 weeks after they were initially booked to.

This is the kind of case I would approve of the death penalty... I think that should be reserved for the most heinous of crimes.. IF the suspect is proven guilty beyond any reasonable doubt..

Jesus fucking christ, a horrible story about murders and the first thing you have to post is "KILL".

"Very rarely" uh huh. Sorry but people who think drug traffickers need the death penalty don't get to use that proviso. I don't know how you can keep saying you are "not in favor" of the death penalty when you are so ready to suggest it.

Sorry, I don't think having people like this among us is worth the risk. And it's not the first thing I think of.

Because those stories break my heart. The question is simple; would you want these people near your kids at any time? Any time? Is it worth the risk?

War is abhorrent. But do we not stand up to the likes of IS, or just let them run amok? And when that darkness is inside our own society, when it harms us... what would you do? I'm genuinely asking here.

TBH, having seen their pictures, I don't know if they're evil or just morally corrupt and should simply be put away forever. But there is something terribly wrong going on there. Imagining the terror that little went girl went through in the last few months of her life, without her mother, just makes me want to retreat from the world.

That woman in the wheelchair was one of the main suspects. They have her on film taking money from the dead woman's centerlink accounts and yet she walks free?

Whaaaaat?

At least where are the charges for that?

It would be nice if this thread could discuss crimes, arrests etc.. without the first response being that more people need to be killed.

Australis your reasoning is frankly nonsense. The choices are not kill people or have them around your children,

Why don't you just say "I'm for the death penalty, we should kill all the shitheads and drug dealers" instead of always claiming you don't support it except in this, this, this and this case?

Because it's the ultimate kind of penalty. Should only be used in the worst of the worst cases.. I don't think killing drug dealers is OK because you kill one and another shithead takes their place..

Why not just legalize some drugs? Problem solved mostly then.

I what about the cases where the system got it wrong? That is the foremost reason why the death penalty was abolished.

And saying that it should only be used when we are 100% sure is not good enough. There have been cases where people where 100% sure but ultimately were wrong.

Also, why should we as a society, reduce ourselves to the level of a killer?

We need a like button.

I just finished watching a series about death penalty cases that they got wrong in the states. Every case was seen as "100% sure", and they were wrong. What's worst, even when the 'guilty' could bring new evidence (ie. once dna evidence became available) no body cared - innocence didn't matter. Even when they could show there was corruption by the police, innocence didn't matter. Politics did however and I don't think whether or not someone is put to death should ever be a political matter. We only need look to the US to see that is often the case.

I hate these people as much as the next person does but I'm not willing to risk even one innocent person been put to death. I certainly don't trust the Australian legal system enough to give it that power.
