The Down Under Lounge

Oh gods yes. Why the heck are the Libs importing all this culture war bullshit which is right out of US politics playbook (no offense to our US friends) it doesn't belong here in Australia but over the last few years politics has become more and more tribal and toxic then ever

Why the heck are the Libs importing all this culture war bullshit

Because they think it will get them votes (not working).

Because they think not having a moral stance against things will lose them votes (the culture war right would vote for them anyway out of fear of the left).

If they'd campaigned on the hospitals and ambulance crisis they may have had a decent showing at the last election. But that stuff is boring to read about and they kept giving the papers juicy stories about them humping nazis and transphobes. Then need to get out of the culture "war" and address real issues people feel disappointed with Labor about and guess what it's not bike lanes and LGBTQ folk.

And The Voice, don't forget that it is gonna divide the nation and bring poverty

Well, you live in Vic and I don't, but I view Dan the way I view the Voice. I look at the people against him, and vote accordingly (metaphorically speaking).

There are many long time labor voters who dislike Dan but they don't sign onto the right's kneejerk hate campaigns. Voting based on reacting to hate campaigns is giving them too much power. Then you end up with questions and critiques being lumped in with the hate campaigners which does no one any good.

Was watching the news. Footy, footy. footy. footy. footy. a whale rescue, footy. footy. and weather. Fuck off! Sick to death of sport!

Well it is grand final weekend for the two dominate codes in this country. Both were close games and great games. Sport is part of our lifestyle here. It will be other sports that will be dominating the news over the next few months.

I noticed that we have a lot of topics in TNZ about US politics but why don't we have a topic or two about Aussie politics?

If this pom might just pop in to your lounge...
I'd like you to discuss Australian politics. I knew about the Voice but I'm always interested in what people on the ground have to say about it rather that just get the media version. Also, as a cricket fan, I like the "welcome to country" at the start of matches. It feels respectful and it makes Australia stand out.
Thank you for having me.

I too love that and a little respect and courtesy costs nothing.

Follow the money as they say and you have to look at who really is behind the NO campaign, and why this matters to them.
