So Israel Folau has started gofundme campaign for his fight against Rugby Australia - already raised over 200k in a few hours.

But it term 8 of their terms is broken with gofundme, so be stopped.

That whole saga annoys me.

Surely he knew what his contract entailed when he was playing rugby.

Yep he was told a few times. If was gonna donate to something it would be something worthy. It's sad that this has raised more so other top gofundme campaigns combined.

I can't see that attitude going over very well in the real world, but whatever floats your boat, I suppose.

As for Folau, his arrogance and hypocrisy really boggle the mind. Misusing something like GoFundMe in this way is reprehensible. Evidently there's no guarantee any or all donated money will actually be used for legal fees. We only have his word for it, and his word is worth less than nothing. He claimed last year he'd walk away rather than damage the code, yet here he is whining to a piece of utter crap like Jones about his entirely self-made problems and dragging rugby in this country even further into the mire with this ridiculous legal action. For someone who claims to be such a student of the Bible, he misses a remarkable number of pertinent points while conducting his anti-homosexual crusade. But of course fundamentalists - of whatever stripe - are never very good at seeing their own flaws.

It pisses me off that he's described as a "Christian". He may have heard the word, but he isn't one, and I'm fed up with being lumped in with bigots like him who pick bits out of the Bible to justify their prejudices. Fuck him. I hope his pathetic legal action is laughed out of every court in the land.

I totally agree with you. It frustrates me no end that people like him can pick and choose which bits of the Bible should be taken as commandments for all time and which bits are no longer relevant. It's just an excuse for homophobia and decent translations of the Greek text (or Hebrew for the Old Testament) don't include anything even approximating what we mean by homosexual.

My comment was about Folau and the fact he signed a contract with the rugby team he was playing on and that probably had some kind of conduct clause. It was sarcasm about signing contracts and then not abiding by them, but didn't translate well in my comment.

Cori Bernardi has deregistered his party. Who thinks he'll try to return to the Liberals now that Turnbull has gone?

well the talk is he's going to jump ship from the senate and the morning murdoch in Adelaide is reporting that georgina downer - daughter of the former foreign minister and two times a loser at trying to win daddy's old seat will be appointed to fill the casual vacancy.

https://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news...r/news-story/0877fa4f5dc54d4006fd3781216f3129

Now the constitutional requirement is that that a departing senator's casual vacany is filled by a member of that party. The libs seem to pushing the angle that he was a member of the liberal party when he was re-elected in 2016 (though I've always said it was pretty dirty pool and pretty gutless that he jumped ship after scoring a 6 year term).

Or he could simply rejoin the libs before he quits.

As to downer it could lead to even more factional warfare within the S.A libs plus she's a blow-in who's spent most of the past decade or so living outside S.A and only moved back to contest the bi-election when Rebekah Sharkie was pinged S.44.

So I had a conversation with someone who told me her dog has killed a few possums and she has cooked them in the slow cooker and eaten them!

if you ever get a dinner invite from that person running in the opposite direction might be a good idea :)

Yeah, I see now what you meant. Apologies for missing the point. :bolian:

The sad thing about this is that it has now got over 500k for his defense. Sick of some people thinking that this is about freedom of speech. Nope.

I did share what Drew Mitchell said yesterday.

No problem it's all good.

I am sick of people whining about "religious freedom" because how the hell are you being oppressed?

You are allowed to say and have your own beliefs just that if you are part of a public organization they might object to preaching while on the job.

Oh those silly Christians, does it say in the bible to next to "feed the hungry" to give the rich man money so he can post hateful things in violation of a contract he has signed?

Idiots. Disgusting.

I'd venture to suggest that the vast majority of actual Christians - as opposed to the fundamentalist know-all pseudo variety - are far more interested in getting on with their own lives than telling others how they should live theirs. It will be the pseudo variety that are donating to this disgraceful campaign.

Christian does not automatically equal idiot, either. (I certainly don't think I'm an idiot, although I have no doubt there are plenty who do.) But I'm tired of that conversation so I'll leave it at that.

[...] what Drew Mitchell said yesterday
...was quite brilliant, and absolutely spot on.

a columnist in the Adelaide Advertiser points out that if follau wants to follow the bible literally he's going to have a problem with shaved heads, tattoos, working on the Sabbath and not judging other people.

I think the Bible verse that Folau should be paying more attention to is Matthew 19:24

‘Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."
