"The Doomsday Machine" Line-by-Line

Congratulations, everyone! Some of the best participation we've had in one of these threads! Standby.

Matt Decker didn't die in vain. He gave his life for the enjoyment of this thread! But I do not find the one thread sufficient. So onward we go...

The participants from our current thread are as follows:

1. CoveTom
2. leandar
3. Alienesse
4. Enterprise1981
5. LeadHead
6. JanewayRulz
7. Ziz
8. Bdry73
9. Captain Robert April
10. KirkPicard
11. brian
12. Claudia
13. goldbug
14. ssosmcin
15. Orac
16. Vanyel

I'd like to point out that sixteen is, I believe, the most participants we've had in a line-by-line thread since at least we started doing the TV episodes. Thanks to everyone for joining in!

Those names should be in the order in which each person first posted to the thread. No "weight" is given for who posted more or less often. Thanks to LeadHead for compiling the list for me!

(If anyone has been inadvertently left off the list of participants, please let me know and I'll try to make it up on the next go-around.)

I then used a random number generator -- www.random.org, to be specific -- and had it pick a number between 1 and 16. This is completely and totally random. There is no favoritism of any kind shown.

And the winner is...

*drumroll*

brian!

Congratulations, brian!

So, brian, the next move is yours. Would you like to select the next episode we are going to do line-by-line? You are free to select the next episode or pass and I will re-run the randomization. You can pick any episode from any of the Trek series that you like. For reference, the ones we've done so far, ordered by series, are:

The Original Series
Where No Man Has Gone Before
The Man Trap
The Menagerie
Journey to Babel
The City on the Edge of Forever
The Doomsday Machine

The Next Generation
Measure of a Man
Yesterday's Enterprise
Peak Performance
The First Duty
The Best of Both Worlds
Sins of the Father
All Good Things...

Deep Space Nine
The Visitor
Trials and Tribble-ations
The Way of the Warrior

Voyager
Bride of Chaotica
Dark Frontier
Scorpion
Counterpoint

Once a new episode has been chosen, I will fire up the next line-by-line thread in the appropriate forum and post the link here.

In all seriousness, I'm not aware of any rule that says you can't pick an ENT episode, I guess it's just no one's wanted to yet. There's a few that I would pick to do when I get to pick again, but to be honest, there's several episodes from other series I'd like to see happen first. I always reserve judgment to change my mind of course, but I'm sure an ENT episode will eventually be chosen by someone around here. lol

I agree with you, leandar. I've been thinking that if I were offered the opportunity to choose the next line-by-liner, I would probably choose a good ENT episode because we haven't done ENT yet. But then I realized that's not the most reasonable way to select an episode for our little game. Strictly in terms of quality, there are many episodes from the other series that I would pick before an ENT one.

So, brian, please feel free to choose whatever episode your heart desires. ;)

Yeah, lets go for he next one, I'm hoping to get to post in a new one again before the weekend is up. :)

LOL. That's part of it. But I am, self-admittedly, what would be classified as an Enterprise "hater" around here. Never could find anything I personally enjoyed about the show. I generally discard it from my "personal canon." But, having said that, I'm not opposed to doing an ENT episode as a line-by-line thread. After all, the rules of the game say that the person who's chosen can pick from any series. So if brian now, or someone else later, wants to go do an ENT episode, so be it.

Hmm... We're approaching 48 hours since I posted the results of the last thread and sent a private message to brian informing him he was the next chooser. I haven't heard back from him. I've never run into this situation before. I don't want to deprive anyone of their choosership, but I don't want to let the thread sit for too long either. I'm thinking 48 hours is a reasonable amount of time and that, after that, we should re-run the randomization and let someone else pick.

What do you all think?

That's a reasonable amount of time. Gives some wiggle room but still if you snooze you lose.

Having passed the 48 hour mark since the chooser announcement, I have re-run the randomization and have selected a new chooser. And the new chooser is...

*drumroll please*

leandar

So, leandar, would you care to make the next selection?

Hmm. Well, as Monty Python might say, brian has presented us with a poser. He posted only about 20 minutes after the 48 hour mark that I had established as a cutoff point for choosers. So... do I make brian miss out on his chance to pick the next episode because he was 20 minutes late? Do I revoke the newly granted choosership from leandar just shortly after granting it? What to do... what to do...

I think the only fair thing is to let random.org pick between brian and leandar. What do you think? Since brian was the original chooser we'll designate him Chooser # 1 and we'll designate leandar Chooser # 2. And with a random pick between 1 and 2, random.org gives us...

leandar!

So, leandar, the choice is still yours.

However, in further interest of fairness, if there are no objections, I will forego the random selection after the next thread and allow brian to automatically have a go at it. After all, this isn't a world changing affair we're talking about. It's a line-by-line thread. :)
