News The Disney+ (The New Streaming Service) Thread

I'm reminded of Demolition Man and the line about Pizza Hut being the only survivor of the Franchise Wars :D

I agree.. some years down the line we will see a consolidation and only 3-4 major streaming services remain and maybe a few very specialized ones for a narrow audience.

I'd guess the obvious candidates are Netflix, Disney+ and Apple with maybe HBO if they manage to put out good enough content. Netflix and Disney have the biggest catalogues so they have the most to offer, Apple has deep coffers so they can survive a few years until they have built up their portfolio but other than that the air gets thin.

I just can't see people spending 50+ bucks a month for several services just to be able to watch 1-2 exclusive hot shows on one service and 1-2 shows on another, and i'm also not even counting the time investment to watch all hot shows.
Years ago i was a heavy show consumer, so much i had to spend 2-3 hours each day to keep up with every show i watched on a regular basis until i took the axe to my viewing habits and cut out much of it (some shows simply lost the quality and others just ran out or were cancelled). I believe the same may happen to others as the market just becomes too big for anyone to really follow unless they don't need to work or are actually unemployed with just enough money to be able to afford Internet and 3-4 streaming services.

HBOmax is Warner Media so it will be all of the content Warners owns. DC, Harry Potter, I think they have Friends back—which was the most watched show on Netflix, Big Bang, Looney Tunes, Hanna Barbera, all of the Warner Brother movies, all of the MGM movies before 1985.

And all of the new content they are creating.

Arguably more known content than Netflix.

Is Hanna-Barbera's stuff going to be on HBO Max? What does that mean for the Boomerang streaming service? That seems to be what the majority of their content is.
Tomorrow is the big day, I'm pretty excited. Is Toy Story 4 going to be a day one movie? My mom and I want to see it, but never got a chance to when it was in theaters.

I don't think so. The only 2019 movies that were due at launch were Captain Marvel and Dumbo. But then they added in Endgame last week, which was originally Dec 10 or something like that. If they stick with that original scheduling, Aladdin would probably be due out at the start of January, and then maybe Toy Story at the end of January, or February.

That said, I believe Forky Asks A Question, which is just a series of quick shorts, will be available on Day 1.

The other TS4 spinoff, Lamp Life (a short film about Bo Peep) won't pop up until some time next year.

Yep.
It could be both the old and then new stuff using the characters. It's solid IP.

Good question. Possibly the way of the DC Universe streaming service....

Late breaking news!

Not that this is going to change anyone's mind one way or the other about getting Disney+, but Disney just tweeted out that they will have an additional 8 MCU movies available on launch day tomorrow, beyond the previously planned 8.

The 8 brand new additions are: IM2, Cap1, Cap2, Cap3, Thor1, Avengers1, GOTG2, and Dr Strange.

That means the only missing ones are Incredible Hulk, the 2 Spidey movies (only time will tell if the Hulk and Spidey movies ever show up), Infinity War, Black Panther, Ragnarok, and Ant-Man and the Wasp. The first 3 are a mystery, but those last 4 should all show up sometime in 2020 when the current Netflix contract runs out.

Am I forgetting any?

Also announced a brand new show:
EJHjmX-UYAAwZye

Though this may just be a commercial/trailer/preview thing, as it's described as "a new look at the original series coming to the service".

Good lord! I just scrolled through a list of what's going to be available day one, and I'm going to be binging the shit out of this! My only complaint is I don't seem to see Gummi Bears listed as one of the shows available, but Darkwing Duck and Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers is on there, so I'm not too miffed! Hopefully it'll be on there eventually, though :)

Are you sure? I could have sworn I saw Adventures of the Gummi Bears in the Tweets where they announced everything.

D'oh! I looked over the list again and it was right at the top! I guess I forgot about the "Adventures of" and just tried looking right for "Gummi Bears" ;)

This is pretty cool, Disney has posted the original trailer for the first Tron in honor of it being up on Disney+ tomorrow.

I get a kick out of watching old trailers like this, because it always amazes me how much trailers have changed, and not changed, over the years.

Now let's see The Mouse make a new Tron TV show or movie.

I would love it if they brought back Tron: Uprising and give it the proper love it deserved instead of the shit they did to it the first time around.

They don't necessarily make shows in multiple languages. They are licensing them in some cases. And that's something they need to address. They need to start owning more and more so it can't ever be taken away. And that's what they are trying to do.

I am referring to the deals they are making with various production companies around the globe. Netflix foots the bill or a good part of the bill to have a series made which Netflix then has the rights too--in perpetuity it would seem as they brand those series as Netflix originals.

Supposedly The Mandalorian (and all new content) is live already for people in the Netherlands and maybe even people with XBoxLive.

Could just be rumors and BS floating around the internet, though we've seen stuff like this launch early in the past.

So just in case it's true, start watching out for those spoilers!

Nope, it's about 12:30am here in Texas and I just downloaded the Android app and logged in. All the content is a little overwhelming.

Just watched the first episode of Mandalorian. It was ok. I need to give it a few more episodes. Now I’m watching the first episode of Darkwing Duck.

The PS4 version doesn't appear to be up yet. I tried 4 times and it just kept saying it can't connect to the server. I'm trying on my computer, but nothing beyond the home page will load.

As with most launches, they’re having server issues. I could login at 2:30am local time, but now it’s intermittent.
