I subscribe to Hulu, Netlfix, Amazon Prime, CBS AA and I'll be adding Disney+ next week, and at this point if I get rid of any of them it'll probably be Netflix. A lot of the acquired stuff is going to start moving over to the studio specific services, and with it's price now, I'm just not sure if I'm I like the stuff that will be staying enough to justify the price. Stranger Things and Lost In Space are the big two of their originals I watch, and I can always just get them on Blu Ray if I want to watch them.

But Netflix is the only company with a truly international presence that makes shows in multiple languages around the world. Amazon Prime streams internationally but I am not sure about how extensive that catalogue is. Disney may be able to challenge Netflix internationally but none of the others at the moment.

What possible reason there can be for the delay? What is the positive that can come from it? They do realize that by March everyone who has no access to D+ has pirated the Mandalorian?

They have to secure rights for each country.

I think that they have rights to their original Disney+ programming in every country. So what if not every country will have the same full catalog of old Disney cartoons or Marvel movies. Netflix has managed the country specific catalogs just fine.

As said, Netflix is growing by leaps and bounds in the international arena.. there pretty much topped out here in the UsofA. So basically.. Don't worry about them collapsing.. there doing just fine.
And when all these smaller platforms fold when people don't subscribe to them becuase it will be service #23 to buy, and there service costs outweigh having a streaming service, .. they'll go back to Netflix, hat in hand, and ask to be put back on there service.
All the studios seem to think that Oh.. I'll have my own streaming service! Thats where the money is made! well... yes.. if your like Disney where you own half the universe.. but other studios? Nope.. Maybe WB.. they have DC.. but DC is all over the place with what.. There DC Channel, HBO Max etc?? sheesh.. It'll all colapse back to 3 or 4 big streaming sites again.

They don't necessarily make shows in multiple languages. They are licensing them in some cases. And that's something they need to address. They need to start owning more and more so it can't ever be taken away. And that's what they are trying to do.

To their credit, they did foresee the streaming wars before they happened. Otherwise, they'd be at risk of losing everything.

I really want it to be the 12th right now. I've put off watching various shows because I want to spend time watching so much on Disney Plus that I don't want to have some half watched show before it launches.

I wish they would make the app available with a countdown clock when you open it. Then we can all know that the app works and any difficulties signing in will give us time to figure out the whole thing instead of everyone doing it on the same day.

I just hope the site doesn't crash from all of the people trying to sign on as soon as it' up. I would like to think Disney is smart enough to have a system than can handle the traffic it's probably going to get.

It's launching at 6am eastern on a Tuesday morning. That ought to be a pretty low-traffic timeslot. Sure, some folks will wake up an hour earlier than usual to watch the Mandalorian or something before going to work. But most folks in the eastern timezone are probably going to wait until after work to go through whatever setup may be needed. And anybody in the central/mountain/west timezones is probably going to be sound asleep when it launches.

Very interesting stuff. A company called SimilarWeb has put out a report on the most-watched content on Disney+ in the Netherlands for the month of September.

As you can see from a quick glance at the lists, the people who signed up early are apparently big fans of Marvel and Star Wars.

Very nice to see Agents of Shield as the #1 television show, with Clone Wars and Rebels coming in at #2 and 3. Even Agent Carter with a very-impressive 4th place, and one has to wonder if that's simply because there aren't as many episodes of Agent Carter for people to watch as compared to the top 3.

Now obviously we've talked all about how some countries will have different availability compared to others, and it may be a case where these particular shows have not been readily available for folks in the Netherlands to watch recently. Who knows?

7 of the top ten movies are also Marvel or Star Wars. But if you would have asked me to guess the top 4 Star Wars movies, those are definitely not the 4 I would have guessed. Though the top 3 Marvel movies make perfect sense, so go figure.

With Infinity War and Agents of Shield at the very top of the list for people's first month viewing, none of us on this forum are going to have any trouble figuring out why Disney has been announcing so many high-profile Marvel and Star Wars shows for Disney+. Those two huge brands are clearly driving a large portion of the Disney+ subscribers.

Though it's really nice to see all the "old" Marvel tv shows, the pre-Feige stuff, dominating that list too. It gives me some hope that maybe they'll allow a tiny bit of it to live on.

That doesn't surprise me that much. Most of the people here in the Netherlands I talk to are psyched for Disney+ because of either Marvel and Star Wars for themselfs or the Disney kids stuff for their kids. Unlike the USA, our Netflix only had Marvel and Disney stuff for a limited time. 6 months and it was gone. Sometimes, stuff returned. Often it wouldn't. The fanbase for both is pretty huge here, and with the insane prices for DVD/Blurays these days, stuff like this is awesome for us.

In the mean, the app was released for Samsung tv's a few days. Seems to work just fine. I had one or two audiolagging issues, but if I press the 'go back 10 seconds' button, everything works just fine. It was fun finally watching Captain Marvel again, which I really think is a bit underrated. Looking forward to finally watching Clone Wars and stuff. When it was on tv in the Netherlands, we only got a Dutch dubbed version for kids. Did not care for that at all.

I agree.. some years down the line we will see a consolidation and only 3-4 major streaming services remain and maybe a few very specialized ones for a narrow audience.

I'd guess the obvious candidates are Netflix, Disney+ and Apple with maybe HBO if they manage to put out good enough content. Netflix and Disney have the biggest catalogues so they have the most to offer, Apple has deep coffers so they can survive a few years until they have built up their portfolio but other than that the air gets thin.

I just can't see people spending 50+ bucks a month for several services just to be able to watch 1-2 exclusive hot shows on one service and 1-2 shows on another, and i'm also not even counting the time investment to watch all hot shows.
Years ago i was a heavy show consumer, so much i had to spend 2-3 hours each day to keep up with every show i watched on a regular basis until i took the axe to my viewing habits and cut out much of it (some shows simply lost the quality and others just ran out or were cancelled). I believe the same may happen to others as the market just becomes too big for anyone to really follow unless they don't need to work or are actually unemployed with just enough money to be able to afford Internet and 3-4 streaming services.

People might do like what I do with Discovery, get CBS AA for 1 month, then cancel after that month to catch up on whatever show I want to watch. So I canned Netflix because I really wasn't watching anything on it for a couple months, so deceided to switch between Amazon and Netflix.. couple months on Amazon, couple on Netflix.
So yeah, you'll have 3-4 main players, and a few that people may pay a few months out of the year to catch up on some exclusive series.
