The Delta Flyers now covering DS9

I haven't enjoyed the podcast much, given that they go scene by scene. However, I would be very interested in Terry talking about Shadowplay. It's mostly confirmed that it was Rene who gave her a hard time those first seasons. Hopefully, she will be forthcoming with the details.
I like Shadowplay well enough and I could use an upbeat Terry episode, so I'll probably give that a listen. I'll avoid "Playing God" like the plague. Man, I hate that episode.

I have fallen a little behind myself, my enthusiasm (for want of a better word) was always tempered by the annoyances anyway. I've made fun of many of them in the past, but the one that never seems to go away is their propensity for repetition. Be it a joke or a complaint, they sometimes reeeeeally run it into the ground. Repetition. Repetition. Repetition.

The best Terry moments for me are when she's usually the one to say (but far too late) 'enough already'. ;)

I wish there were more anecdotes from the actual production. (I appreciate the ones we do get, to be clear!)

Well, the "Whispers" episode broke my giddy, new-toy enthusiasm for this series.

Man, what a snooze fest. Totally anodyne, dull conversation without a scintilla of interesting insight or analysis from anyone.
I'm catching up now, and I can't disagree. I found it weird that they all seemed momentarily flummoxed by the ep title. They always harp on about the simplest things, one of them will finally stumble upon the "answer" and then have to convince the others. (Or sometimes they'll mention the obvious and the others will act like they're a genius. :D)

It's just frustrating to have to sit through...let's say, "periodic ignorance of nuance". Damn you, totally free podcast that no one is forcing me to listen to! ;)

Paradise. Armin complains about "How did they get there without the wormhole" even though the settlement is in the Alpha Quadrant, doesn't seem to understand the Prime Directive, and strangest of all he seems adamantly opposed to the notion that Alixus could possibly turn off the field temporarily.

Oh, he also wonders why they take Vinod with them at the end. I dunno, maybe something to do with attempted murder? :D

I've also had a lapse in listening. I fell off about two months ago and I don't know if I'll find time to catch up now. I think it's the sheer length of the episodes that's putting me off - when the series started they could be as short as thirty minutes but now they're usually twice or even thrice that.

Yeah, as usual, he had some weird misunderstandings. I guess all of them were confused about the Prime Directive. It doesn't include human colonies founded by members of the Federation ten years ago.

That said, Armin was dead on when he said it was ridiculous that only one colonist got to speak up about their future and declared, on behalf of everyone that they were all going to stay on the colony with apparently no actual discussion or dissent on the issue.

And once again, all of the hosts seem convinced - wrongly! - that Dabo girls are prostitutes. Ugh.

Do they read listener mail from Patrons? Because I want to join just to send them a message. For all their wild errors and misunderstandings, this one sticks in my craw the most.

Didn't Terry finally hit on the right explanation for the boys this week? That the dabo girls main job is the gambling, but the ones that are so inclined also work as escorts. That's exactly what I've always thought was happening.
But even if she thought it was, what, part time, she still seemed to think they worked as escorts and the dudes agree with her.

But, no, that's just not so.

The holosuites are for sex. The Dabo girls are for Dabo. That's it. They're not prostitutes, that was never the intention. Nor would they ever do it as a voluntary sideline since it would cut into Quark's holosuite profits.

They seem utterly perplexed by the fact that they're dressed scantily and act flirty. Uh, yeah, that's so they entice people to people keep gambling.

Armin seemed to think that because there were two instances where Quark was trying to sexually blackmail dabo girls into sex that they were escorts. Uh, no, that was just Quark being a disgusting POS. That doesn't mean it was their job.

I enjoyed the most recent episode and it they started out with a lovely tribute to James Darren.

The only real "error" that I noticed - which is totally understandable and not at all surprising - is that they didn't know that the Samarian sunset already appeared in Trek before "Profit and Loss."

I rewatched parts of "Profit..." recently in anticipation of the podcast and I found it hilarious how Quark so easily mixed up a Sunset by just mixing two different drinks together very quickly, even though TNG established it was so complicated to make that Data was the only one onboard the Enterprise who could do it.

The blocking on DS9 was seriously weak during that moment, even if you ignore the supposed "complexity" of the drink. Quark takes a bottle he had already been holding and passing back to Odo and just drops in a splash of one other thing and - boom - instant Sunset. Lame.

That's so like a Ferengi...to make a simpler, more cost-effective product and pass it off as something else. :)

I was really excited at first but these podcasts are…kind of a slog to get through. I’ve kind of given up, as much as I adore Terry and Armin. Robbie and Garrett really need to STOP describing each scene; fair enough, there are often some fun comments or observations but the format just drags. I wish they’d maybe just discuss their standout moments and key themes of the episode or something. I really don’t need to hear a description of each scene and line of dialogue. I swear it accounts for about 80% of the runtime. I ain’t got the time.

That is kind of the point, though. It is sadly just a "here's what happened in this episode" podcast instead of a "here's what I thought of this episode."

I definitely wish there was more actual discussion and analysis of the episode. All they really do is the silly "what was the theme of the episode", which is always the just a collection of trite and obvious cliches. "This episode is about 'don't judge a book by it's cover!" "Whoa, man, that's deep!" Gimme a break....

In the recent "Maquis Pt 1" episode, for instance, they could have discussed how it was interesting that a foundational concept of Voyager started on DS9 and what their reaction was to seeing such an important part of their show take root initially on another series.

Sometimes, they'll discuss things in the moment while they describing specific scenes, but actual in-depth conversations are few and far between.

And Armin really seems to be the only person who ever actually critiques the show and has strong opinions about anything beyond, "oh, I loved this part!" Which is especially frustrating given that Armin either has hilariously erroneous takes on things or just comes across as a stick in the mud.
