Out of curiosity, what would've happened if everyone had assumed that he was down, except the refs, and stopped playing? Would've it had been several minutes of awkwardness?
Edit: Dyer really has this role-over-the-defender thing down.

Oregon will choke - they've never been in this situation. Auburn has dealt with close games all year.

Oh yeah, Dyer has to be the MVP. This was a good game, not a shootout as was predicted, but I like a good defensive battle. Part of me still wanted Dyer to stop running just so we could've witnessed the confusion.
Either way, good game by all, now I can turn my attention to constantly refreshing the Detroit Free Press website waiting for U of M's new coach.

But let's hear no nonsense about "soft teams" - Oregon's defense went toe to toe with guys 40 pounds heavier and they scrapped offensively all game. This easily could've gone the other way, and that's how a championship should be. Very satisfying game even if the end was a shame.

Despite the close score, the game was never really in question. Auburn controlled it from start to finish. When the fluke late score made it gut-check time, Auburn proved it had more guts and more heart then Oregon. Their tough schedule prepared them for that moment. Blowout games against a nothing conference doesn't make you ready for a national championship game. Playing week in and week out against the best teams in the country does.

I'm sure you have a great explanation for why the Tigers were held to their second-lowest score of the year, too?In fairness, Newton was made to look relatively mortal (if still very good) - it was Dyer and the lines that ultimately broke the back of the Ducks.

True, that, but Auburn's quarterback was still bought and paid for at the end of the day. Everyone knows it. Doesn't it taint things, pretty much?
Nice try Ducks. At least you didn't embarrass yourselves or the Pac 10 (12). But with Harbaugh leaving Stanford, it looks like the conference will have to wait until USC gets back on it's feet in order to actually win one of these games.
BTW, this game is a good example what happens when a gimmicky finesse offense meets a disciplined tough defense.

1 – Auburn (14-0)
I was, some weeks (and a few minutes) ago, sorely tempted to disqualify Auburn over the Cam Newton affair. The NCAA (Needs Championship, Allows Auburn) got its game, at the cost of yet another piece voluntarily cut from its collective soul.
2 – Texas Christian (13-0)
Despite Gene Chizik's award, this is the best-coached, and just maybe the best overall, team in the country.
3 – Oregon (12-1)
Anyone who still asserts that Oregon wasn't a worthy adversary is either obdurate or obtuse.
4 – Stanford (12-1)
Now that Harbaugh's gone, is Stanford, too?
5 – Boise State (12-1)
I wonder if any other missed field goal has ever cost a college team that much money?
6 – Ohio State (12-1)
It's close, but ... I just think the Broncos handle 'em on a neutral field. [I think TCU does it with relative ease.]
7 – Louisiana State (11-2)
"...and Miles to go before I sleep"?
8 – Wisconsin (11-2)
The Badgers couldn't have asked for a better matchup physically, and yet ... they were outhustled, outhit, outcoached, outclassed and outmaneuvered.

And after all that, OU's the class of the conference again. How irritating.

One could rank 'em as high as 7th and make a case for it. They've definitely earned their top ten.

They showed a lot of resilience this year.

It seemed impossible at this time last year, but that national championship will taste a little like ash now, because Auburn's won one more recently.
13 – Virginia Tech (11-3)
Despite the stumble against Stanford, Hell of a way to regroup.
14 – Arkansas (10-3)
Mark my words: Mallett, like Brian Brohm, will do nothing in the NFL.
15 – Michigan State (11-2)
When they lose, they lose BIG.

We'll see 'em consistently at or near the top of the ACC for the forseeable future.
17 – Missouri (10-3)
Beating Oklahoma was a huge breakthrough, and means the season is a success.

They hadn't seen anything like LSU all year.
19 – Mississippi State (9-4)
This is probably as good as it gets for them in the SEC.

This is going to be a very interesting season.
21 – Central Florida (11-3)
USF does not want them to join the Big East.

If Lattimore stays healthy, and in school, Spurrier's got a contender for another three years.

The game that I watched showed two very well-coached teams engaged in sloppy though hard-hitting battle. If Oregon doesn't commit those two first half turnovers, the second half could have been different. There were swings in momentum and great - if subtle - plays all over the place. Congrats to the Tigers for playing well and earning a title. Congrats for the Ducks for being an earnest opponent who showed they belonged. In the end Auburn, was just a shade better and Newton a mortal though still champion.
ETA: Auburn back Michael Dyer is the real hero of the game, and perhaps the coach who was alert enough to tell him "keep running". Smart, heads up play since the whistle hadn't blown. But that Oregon d-lineman ... #99 I think --- I kept wondering why he made no attempt to stop Dyer if on whistle had blown.

Well, my wife's blood pressure is back to normal now. 
She's an Auburn alum, so it was a very emotional game for her. Good game, although I think Newton wasn't quite up to his potential for this game. It seemed that he was in pain and slow to get up quite a few times.
There were a few things that bothered me though. One was Brent Musburger - I can't stand his commentating style. Another was that I could barely hear the bands at all. At first, I thought they had put the bands in the upper deck (which would really tick me off), but it was just either really bad acoustics or no mics near them. For most games in the college stadiums, I can hear the band just fine.
The last thing that bothered me, which I was surprised that nobody was saying much about, was there seemed to be something off about the playing surface. It wasn't wet, but the players were slipping a lot more than they should have been. And every time they slipped, some light-colored stuff was flying up - no idea what it was.
