The College Football Thread

I want to see what Tony Pike does against a nasty good Florida defense first, but he might be a good prospect for Sundays.

Case Keenum doesn't appear to have helped his cause today against Air Force:
CP/AT YDS TD INT
24/41 220 1 6

Jimmy Clausen ..... I'm still not sure about his chances

Sam Bradford's shoulder injuries are going to make him a big gamble for a high pick

Adam James is a pampered rich kid. He's going to have a rude awakening once he gets out of college and goes into the real world since he doesn't have an NFL career ahead of him. You should have heard "Mike and Mike" defending the firing.

Not surprising, since Texas Tech likes to hire less controversial coaches like Bobby Knight. They'll sure be sorry, though. Recruiting kids to the armpit of Texas is no easy task. Leach won't be easily replaced.

Oh, and Urban Meyer? What a drama queen. Why didn't he just ask for a leave of absence in the first place instead of making his oh so tearful retirement announcement about being a real daddy again to his daughters or whatever that rot was and then changing his mind 24 hours later? :guffaw: Guess his ego needs the spotlight.

Nobody wins that whole Mike Leach vs Craig James vs Texas Tech scrum. Every one gets hurt. Leach comes off as an arrogant and insubordinate. James comes off as a meddling parent whose objectivity as a reporter will now be perpetually in question. Texas Tech is going to hurt in getting recruits.

As for Meyer's change of mind, it's good to read this article first before making any kind of judgment. It wasn't ego, not in the traditional sense.

I'm sure that was an ESPN directive to Golic and Greenberg. ESPN is totally fucked, here: Either it admits that Adam James' dad, a company employee, was the source for its blatantly false report, or it continues to run with the narrative that was concocted as a result of Craig James' false information. The whole "there are no winners" line is yet another ESPN spin that I've heard a few times over the last few days as the network tries to cover its ass.

The only thing that Leach did wrong was refuse his AD's directive to send a written apology to Adam James and his family for doing nothing wrong whatsoever. Gerald Myers has never been fond of Leach, and was clearly disgusted when Leach was signed to an extension earlier this year. Myers has been itching for an excuse to fire him, and the ire of a miscreant and an ESPN analyst was the ammunition he needed.

True. Though I can understand why Leach didn't want to do it, if it comes down to your job sometimes you have to suck it up. Many of the people here on talk radio brought up a good point--wouldn't forcing the James kid to practice with the concussion if he hadn't been examined or cleared for it have been worse? The kid did receive proper medical attention before he was locked in the "closet" that had the air conditioning and what looks like a television.

Trust me ... you're much better off rooting FOR someone as opposed to rooting against their opponent. ;)

GO BUCKS!!!

God almighty, Auburn, you officially have no toes left on anyone. Anyone watching the last three minutes of the Auburn/N'Western game needs no explanation whatsoever.

EDIT-- Oh my God, I can't believe the Northwestern kicker missed the game winning field goal when Auburn gave them the game on a silver platter.

Auburn... is full of cheaters. And if they've hurt that poor boy's ankle, there will be much mocking of the Aubs I know. As an Alabama fan, I do not condone outright hatred of Auburn (our rival) because when it comes down to it, it would be like hating your brother.

But this is just pathetic.

Northwestern..... :wtf: How could you lose a game that Auburn tried so very, very, VERY hard to give away? Must not have trusted that backup kicker at all.

Looks like Oregon might be picking up some fans today...

Which is kind of sad. Not that it's Oregon, because they're a great program with real personality and ability that genuinely merits a sincere fanbase. But to become a "fan" of or root for another just because of some irrational dislike of another seems like such a waste of energy.

There are a few teams I root against (USC, OSU, Tennessee, Oklahoma) simply because the media loves them... and I just don't see all the fuss. They could go 0-5 and still be ranked. Tennessee to a lesser extent now, thank goodness.

Yeah, I really despise Tennessee. They're out of state rivals for us, so it's okay to hate them passionately. So happy they might go on probation. :D Karma!!

But why root against that team, if the fault lies with someone else, in this case the media?

Tennessee is pretty much a rival with every team in the SEC. I don't know how they manage.

They piss everyone off and no one likes them. That's how it came to be. I don't know anyone who doesn't love to see Tennessee lose.

Speaking of TN. I was at the Alabama Tennessee game this year. Sat on the 25 right in front of the block. It was AMAZING.

Nice win by Penn State today. On a terrible field, no less.

Now, it's Rose Bowl time.

GO DUCKS!!!

Nice win by Penn St over LSU today. That personal foul against the LSU o-lineman at the end was questionable at best. I'm with the announcers in thinking all he was doing was trying to clear the pile so the ball could be spiked. Regardless, the LSU qb took waaaay too much time to get the plays going. Penn St deserved the win.

Florida St wins the Bobby Bowden Bowl.. This Manuel that the Noles havee at qb is looking VERY good. They may be back on the upswing.
