JM'S Top Twenty-Five, Week Ending October 10th, 2009
1 – Florida (5-0)
I changed the channel at halftime: The game was essentially over at 10-3.
2 – Alabama (6-0)
This is almost 1 and 1A, to be frank.
3 – Cincinnati (5-0)
I can't wait for this USF matchup.
4 – Iowa (6-0)
It doesn't matter if UM is not quite back in blue (and maize)—a win over Michigan is significant for the Hawkeyes.
5 – Texas (5-0)
Still just not very impressive—though they seem to be a sleeping giant, rousing only in the second half.
6 – Boise State (5-0)
Beating Oregon is looking better all the time. Their schedule still has a few small landmines, however.
7 – Virginia Tech (5-1)
The Hokies' motto: If you're going to lose, do it opening weekend.
8 – Louisiana State (5-1)
Well, one team did have to lose, after all.
9 – South Florida (5-0)
Almost no luster left on that FSU win.
10 – Miami, Florida (4-1)
They, too, play USF this year.
11 – Oregon (5-1)
Still some question as to which paddling of Ducks shows up each week.
12 – Texas Christian (5-0)
They're not winning big, but they're winning ... and while their schedule doesn't look overly impressive, they're willing to travel east and take on big-name (if not, just now, big-time) opponents.
13 – Southern California (4-1)
No way they run the table. Bet the house on it.
14 – Kansas (5-0)
And that goes double for these guys.
15 – Houston (4-1)
That loss to UTEP was inexplicable.
16 – Ohio State (5-1)
At last, something resembling an impressive quality win.
17 – Oklahoma State (4-1)
Once again, they'll make it excruciating for their fans—winning just enough to keep them hopeful, losing just enough to keep themselves from elite status.
18 – South Carolina (5-1)
They're quietly amassing wins.
19 – Brigham Young (5-1)
TCU and Utah still loom.
20 – Georgia Tech (5-1)
Boosted Bobby Bowden bitching big.
21 – Pittsburgh (5-1)
Craig James said something like, "Rutgers isn't in their class." This is the same Rutgers that Pitt hasn't beaten since 2004. Craig James is a moron.
22 – Auburn (5-1)
I like that they fought back and made it a game for a while, even when it looked hopeless.
23 – West Virginia (4-1)
Could you imagine if they cut their turnovers in half?
24 – Utah (4-1)
They're still a huge obstacle in the path of both BYU and TCU.
25 – Oklahoma (3-2)
They didn't look great against Baylor, but ... they are Oklahoma.
Rutgers Watch: The Knights improved to 4-1 after a meaningless scrimmage against Texas Southern, which sets up their first signifcant game in over a month against #21 Pittsburgh Friday in Piscataway ... and while I don't think it's a gimme by any stretch, they've owned the Panthers for half a decade, so there's definitely cause for some hopefulness. If they win, RU will appear in my Top Twenty-Five for the first time this season. If not, you won't hear me mention them again in that vein unless they're at least 7-2.
