"The Child" on blu-ray

My apologies if this has already been discussed...

Better late than never, I have started picking up and watching the TNG blu-ray. My rewatch got me on to "The Child" last night.

I still love the episode (season 2 is my favourite) but I was shocked at the terrible quality picture in several parts of the episode - about 30 seconds worth (all Bridge shots) near the beginning of the episode. And when I say poor, I am talking looks worse than VHS! Really grainy and poor.

I'm no technology expert so - have I just got a dud copy? Was this a mass release problem? Is my TV/blu-ray player doing something wrong?

It's not the first time I've seen graininess in a picture (some of season 1, especially when the shot was particularly dark/black, had some) but this goes way beyond that.

I'll have to watch my copy. This isn't ringing a bell.

IIRC, I think there were a few very rare instances in the process of remastering the series where they couldn't find the film masters for certain shots, so they had to insert what they already had. I don't think it would look "worse than VHS," though.

Yes, there's some graininess going on in some shots. Worse picture quality than VHS though? No.

I can't remember where, but I have seen others complain that the season 2 remasters are noticeably worse quality than the rest of the series, attributing it to the fact that supposedly a different company did the work on season 2.

DISCLAIMER: I have no idea if this is true. Personally, I've never noticed a difference in the season 2 remasters -- usually what's going through my mind is "how is this noticeably worse than the other years? I'm not seeing it..."
