The bridge shots (large images)

Not a cadet uniform.
Well, that's one thing that EW...got...I'm sorry, I'm a little distracted by J. O'Lantern's avatar.

Must come in handy in the TNZ forum.

This is how I win debates.

Not the whole board ;)

Only the gay guys. I have the lesbian contingent, too.

Don't forget the 400 coats of paint...on everything.
My best friend was in the navy for 8 years, worked aboard the Carl Vinson. He said when they had nothing else to do, they painted. Everything.

J.

Best defense against salt water corrosion. ;)

Apparently!

He said the hangar deck doors were incredibly thick, but that very little of it was steel.

Re: The bridge shots

I used Photoshop to get an idea of what Pine will look like in command gold. Check it out...
command_gold_web.jpg

The new uni's seem a little bit to "Aquaman-ish" for my taste. And it seems that the bridge is wwaayy to much like Galaxy Quest also. Are you people that take" JJ"'s words to heart really think that he is a "fan" or does he think that he can really bring in new fans of his "reimagining"???? We shall see on opening day, but unfortunately my money won't be included in the theatrical release. Everything I have seen and heard so far has been what I have thought what would happen if you tried to do the things Abrams wants.
I'll be waiting for you "JJ" fans" that complained about the story about why Khan couldn't remember Chekov because he wasn't on the Enterprise to remember him.

I can't make an English sentence out of this no matter how I try. Help?

In any event, the Photoshop of Pine in the uniform looks very good. Nicely done. :)

Try reading and writing all the post Polaris. After all the years of changing handles and names you should know how.:techman:

I think J.J.'s fan enough to work on the heart of Star Trek. Criticizing the drapes doesn't even begin to tell the whole story. Don't like the design? Fine. Not seeing the movie because you don't like the uniforms and the bridge? Perfectly acceptable. Keep your money. The movie won't need it. You can cherish your DVDs of the series' you own.

And Polaris criticized my writing technique? No I don't like the design. Mainly because it does not "look" Star Trek for a bridge. More like "trying" to blend in other shows to make it look appealing.

He is trying to make it look appealing, yes. He's doing this because Star Trek needs revived. It is dying on it's current track. I think what he's doing is making people go "Oooh! Pretty lights!" and BAM, hit them with a good story. It worked for Iron Man, it can work for Star Trek.

Really? Iron Man was good? Maybe I missed that part. Though, I get your point.

But Star Trek on it's own is an entirely different entity. Of course you get some excellent CGI and Iron-Man being reletively a roll of the dice hero, albight with all the explosions in the movie and all, doesn't suprise me. But Star Trek is not about that at all. It is about facing what is ultimately what is negative in your life and overcoming it. And on that note and nowadays is almost not seen anymore. IMO Star Trek is still too "nerdish" and that is not the right word to use, to attract a mainstream audience or "new" fans.

Oh yes. I wasn't even a fan of Iron Man, never read a comic or watched any series with him in it. I saw this movie, and loved it. Not only did I love it, it was all I thought about for days. I went back and started looking at the comics and the history of Iron Man, and the same day the movie came out on DVD, I grabbed it. If I would have had the money, I would have bought the blu-ray disc and the blu-ray player to go with it.

Plus, the movie brought in obscene amounts of money at the box office and is doing so in DVD/Blu-Ray sales, and I anxiously await the next movie.

J.J.'s taking a niche and making it mainstream. I think he's going to make the package Star Trek offers (that being of humanity's ascent to the stars, and hope, and friendship) an appealing one. The only people who were hating on Iron Man (not merely ambivalent about the movie) were the purists who were upset that Tony Stark was a foot shorter in the movie. To me that was such a trivial thing, particularly after such a well made movie that brought the appeal of Iron Man to the wider audience.

Re: The bridge shots

But 'culturally iconic' is not the same thing as 'financially successful now.' Plenty of 'iconic' franchises have been ruined by pitching their 'updated' versions to the wrong audience or not providing enough to draw in new fans. Thunderbirds springs immediately to mind.

That's true. I hear what you and Polaris are saying, and I'm not surprised that the Abrams crew is trying to update some things. But I also think it's possible that some of these other ventures failed for that exact reason - they didn't capture the essence of what the original was, or they aimed for the wrong audience (or both. :D). I also agree with some of what J. said, that this movie shouldn't aim mainly for the hardcore Trek fans. It should try to draw in new people, because we can use as many new fans as we can get.

All I'm saying is, ideally there's no reason it can't do both. ;) And I hope it will. Ultimately the story will matter more anyway.

Re: The bridge shots

And Polaris criticized my writing technique?

No, I just pointed out that your sentence was unintelligible; it remains so, and the defect is not in my understanding - it's that whatever you thought you were saying there, you did not succeed.

SO SAYETH THE ALMIGHTY POLARIS.....
...and any other person who knows how to write a coherent sentence and paragraph. :vulcan:
