Spoilers The big question…

I took it as ENTIRELY DIFFERENT from everyone else who saw it as a big horrible thing. I took it as a new transwarp conduit that the Borg will use to rebuild themselves but share with the rest of the galaxy. It is part of the Borg's redemption and their friendship with the rest of the galaxy.

It also opens up many new stories for exploration.
Yeah. But I still think the massive energy wave was Q's actual death. And the resultant conduit was his way of finding redemption because of introducing Jean-Luc to the Borg. Maybe I'm being too sentimental?

Normally you'd assume they were setting up season 3 with the totally random spoot of universe-destroying fire that needed to be stopped which then turned into a wormhole, but apparently Alison Pill is done so no Borg guarding the gates in S3:shrug:

It's the next "what happened to Narek?"

Akiva apparently said in an interview that the conduit won't be explored in Season 3, but it's not an abandoned idea, it will be used at some point.
Maybe on Discovery?
Starfleet officer: The Jurati Borg Faction is reporting activity at the transwarp corridor.
Admiral Vance: Jurati Borg? Transwarp corridor?
Officer: Yes sir, from 2401.
Display of mission logs appears.
Vance: I totally forgot that was a thing. Okay, send Discovery. Let Burnham and her crew spend the next ten weeks crying about it.
