What is on the other side of the gate that the Borg are protecting?

This concept seems like a reboot of DS9.

In Deep Space Nine, the station crew were first exploring and eventually protecting the wormhole, hence it’s relocation from Bajor to fulfil this role. Of course, on the other side of the Bajoran wormhole there were many wonders and often a few adversary’s, the most notable of which is the Dominion.

So, what is on the other side of the Transwarp conduit? We all know that these are produced artificially so there must be some form of intelligence behind this ‘anomaly’.

It almost seems like the start or a failed attack on the Alpha Quadrant or even the entire galaxy? But the gateway is still open for further attacks or even travel as a transwarp conduit? Or is this all a misunderstanding as often is the case in these types of scenarios in Star Trek, as shown by the recent Borg developments and preliminary misunderstanding of their application for Federation membership?

Maybe next season, our heroes will travel though the conduit to explore?

They came through some kind of tear in space, an inter-dimensional rift not a transwarp conduit. They may have developed a new form of travel though. Perhaps…

The Borg themselves are renowned for their transwarp capabilities.

My guess is they are going to go full Star Trek Galaxy and a Starfleet ship will come out, probably The Enterprise. It won't make sense or be fully explained but it will set up having the TNG crew return and give us TNG season 8 that everyone seems to want. I can't find the tweet now but I'm pretty sure that Terry Matalas vaguely hinted at it on twitter.

Considering that the show is about Picard, i see two possibilities:

1. The Iconians (because of Picard being fascinated by them and the reveal that they are still out there in Discovery Season 4).

2. Survivors from Kataan (because of the impact on Jean Luc's life by the kataanian probe and the main theme of the show being a version of the flute theme from "The Inner Light").

So apparently the Tkon, considering Chabon's confirmation of the Synthulhu being them during Season 1.

Also very possible and it would be a nice callback to TNG Season 1

Of course it will be an adversary of some kind, but it would've been interesting if they would've made that whole Borg-Fed unifying crisis the actual death of Q, since we know the Continuum's civil war in VOY resulted in supernovas 'n all that. So after Q snapped his fingers in the past, he went back to Picard's day and blew up. Weird, I know, but we've seen weirder.

Probably a Soong. The little known 'Transwarp Conduit Soong' who's using transwarp energy to create the perfect daughter but in doing so will destroy the galaxy. This however will only make up a small part of the season which will mostly devote itself to exploring the backstory of why Riker sits on chairs weird.

Failing that, Iconians might be cool.

Akiva apparently said in an interview that the conduit won't be explored in Season 3, but it's not an abandoned idea, it will be used at some point.

I took it as ENTIRELY DIFFERENT from everyone else who saw it as a big horrible thing. I took it as a new transwarp conduit that the Borg will use to rebuild themselves but share with the rest of the galaxy. It is part of the Borg's redemption and their friendship with the rest of the galaxy.

It also opens up many new stories for exploration.
