no, you won't be out because you can't eject, duhhh @King Daniel Beyond keep it internally consistent! Also if the captain's chair doesn't have an EJECT POD button, I'm out![]()

I doubt it.I'm expecting the Shenzhou bridge to be recycled
If it's not very VERY close to the original, which I'm sure it won't be, I'm going to be an upset fan, which I'm also sure I'm going to be.
Pessimism, it's good for old folks like me. It keeps us vigorous. Now get off my lawn and quit asking me stuff like this.
I always thought he was drinking coffee, but that's got Ice in it, he's drinking soda!
They already have many of the original sounds in the background on the Discovery. In all seriousness.
i want the same background noices, and the babble of voices over the intercom. And if the ship uses it's impulse engines, or goes to warp, the "increasing drone" sound.
Somewhat muted okay, but i want them there.
Yet another thing that The Orville stole from Star Trek.I always thought he was drinking coffee, but that's got Ice in it, he's drinking soda!
SO, now we know it's canon that COKE and/or PEPSI is still around in the 23rd Century!!

Yes on a bigger viewscreen (especially bigger than the version in "The Cage," which was even smaller than in TOS!). I think panoramic would be overdoing it, though; they should keep in mind optimum viewing angles, distances, and range of peripheral vision for actual human beings.Needs updates:
The viewscreen can be bigger. Even much, much bigger. Semi-panoramic, if they like. The whole bridge can be bigger, for that matter.
Agree completely. The original static screens were strictly a function of technical limits of the day, not of what Jefferies would have preferred. (Although it was prescient that the set used flat screens rather than CRTs!)The static displays above the consoles (the ones the characters have to look up to see) should be modern displays. It might be cool if each whole, long rectangular space were a single screen, rather than monitors inset into useless real estate.
Not big on touchscreens, for reasons other posters have already discussed. The more tactile feedback the controls have, the better. The jellybean buttons can replaced with a combination of touchscreens and buttons, like on the Discovery.
I'm agnostic on the chairs, so long as they look futuristic. (Except for the captain's chair — IMHO the closer to the original, the better, where that's concerned.)The Burke chairs ought to be replaced so they don't look like, well, Burke chairs.
Perhaps just a little, but not a lot. The design of the original is very elegant and efficient, IMHO. It also keeps those two important stations within view (and reach) of the captain any time he's seated and looking at the viewscreen. The helm console can be bigger and more arc shaped.
Yup, no problem with that. The astrogator needs updated. It can be a hologram for all I care.
Significantly brighter. Lots brighter. The lighting can be dimmer, but hopefully brighter than on the Discovery.
Absolutely. This may seem obvious, but a lot of latter-day Starfleet bridges have gone with conspicuously non-circular shapes.Non-negotiable:
The bridge should be round and have the step-down pit design of the original. There must be a railing.
Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, and yep. (Except that I'd prefer to turbolift door to be a simple rectangle.)The nav and helm should be one unit, in the same relative position as in TOS.
There should be some blinky lights, as there are on Discovery.
There must be a pulsing light thingy under the viewscreen.
Would like the workstations to have the familiar U shape, though the U can be bigger.
If based on the main TOS design, the bridge should have some color like the original.
The turbolift door should be in its proper position, though it can be the shape of the Discovery doors.
No freestanding stations blocking sight lines like in the Abrams movies.
Also agree on all of these!Preferences:
Would like to see some wood trim on the captain's chair. I always thought the organic material was a nice tactile touch that would be appreciated by a captain stuck in a ship for long periods.
Be cool if the crew chairs preserved the elegant tulip legs of the original, in some small way. That's very Star Trek. So are the pointy backrests.
Would like the back of the captain's chair to be the same height as the original and flat along the top, so that it doesn't extend above the captain's shoulders. It's not a throne.
I have literally almost no visual impression of the Discovery bridge. If you were to ask me, I'd say it has conspicuously bulky/swoopy supports under the helm & nav stations, and much too much blue and gunmetal grey in the color scheme, and that's honestly about all I could tell you about it.I'm conflicted. I'd like it to be as faithful as possible, but I don't want it to pale in comparison to the Discovery bridge. In that sense, I understand the need to integrate the two styles. No matter what I think of them, the Discovery design choices have been made and we have to live in that framework.
Good resource. The key points any (re)designers should remember are simplicity, attractiveness, and ergonomics.Forward! into the past, maybe.

A lot of what GR wanted either wasn’t feasible in 1964, or was cost prohibitive. This MA article has a lot of information about the genesis of the bridge. If I were designing the Disco-E, I’d start there.
I'm torn about this one. It's a nice bit of design (I especially like the captain's chair), but I think just a little too advanced looking for the era. Particular personal quibbles would include:So basically the fan bridge that popped up a few months ago? Would be more than happy with this but make it brighter overall.

I'd be really surprised if they do that... if only because the Shenzou bridge is completely the wrong shape, narrower at the bottom, since (for whatever reason) it hangs beneath its saucer section. Changing that would mean rebuilding all the radial struts on the set, and if they're gonna take that kind of trouble they may as well just build a new set.I'm expecting the Shenzhou bridge to be recycled...

This is very close to what I'd imagine the bridge is going to look like but brighter. Not even the Discovery's bridge is dark like that in the actual episodes. Since they use self-lighting on the sets it's going to look darker in general though. Noway around that. They're not going to light up the entire set. That would harm overall filming. I think this even more after the one panel we see in the latest Discovery video and what the hallways and doors look like on the Enterprise that we go to see. This matches up with Discovery and the various ships we've already seen visually while at the same time keeps the same shape of the bridge. So basically the fan bridge that popped up a few months ago? Would be more than happy with this but make it brighter overall.

The general layout should stay, captains chair in the middle, two people in the front (but not helm/nav, use one pilot and someone else, maybe even ops like Discovery does, a separate navigator is pointless), everyone else in a circle around them.
Everything else can be tossed, the design of the consoles and monitors, the colors, the size should all fit the new look. They should also add a second turbolift.
