The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

A nice space toy here:

Most spaceship toys are bulbous, like Audis and the Ford Taurus jellybeans.

I miss this look:

What's the best way to remove paint from plastic models? I've tried ethanol (0 effect), isopropanol (0 effect), acetone (immediate effect, but smears it around). I've done it with regular tissue paper and q-tips. Are there better ways? (It's about the black scorch marks on the PM GEN D ;) )

Meanwhile in Japan, a large collection of awesome vintage Astro Boy toys is about to be auctioned:

Does anyone remember these things?

Ok it was like a folder or packet and inside was a big card with a scene or background printed on it.

You had plastic sheets with bits of scenery and or characters on them which you could apply to the scene by laying the sheet with the item you wanted onto the scene and rubbing with the end of a pencil to get the item you wanted to stick to the printed background.

They came in many themes like space, medieval, fantasy or horror.

I remember that you had to be really careful or you would get only a partial transfer. Definitely not for the impatient or slapdash!

Although you can get rub-on transfers still, they tend to be aimed at the craft market (children making cards, for instance). When it comes to making scenes, I suppose that modern-day stickers require less care and are frequently reusable.

Been to Stuttgart these past few days to visit my younger brother, his wife, and their newborn son. And, of course, I took the opportunity while in town to visit the two prominent vintage toy shops, Such & Find, and Strongvision. Took home a pretty good haul.

Here's what I found at Such & Find:

Yeah, another Imperial Godzilla, but at €4,- I couldn't leave him. Also very happy to have found a Japanese Bandai Sofugi Burning Godzilla there, and that troll kaiju was just too funny, I had to take him with me.

Don't ask me what sword that is with the Steel figure. Pretty happy with that Retro Batman figure, I should still have a spare cape for him.

This one I nearly missed, a nice figure of the Colossus from Ray Harryhausen's Jason & the Argonauts (note the small Argos ship at the bottom). For €10,- I was very happy to take him.

And then I went to Strongvision:

My sister-in-law had actually asked me if I had enough space for all my figures.

That's Gowron in the box the first series of Playmates figures came in here in Germany. It's been opened, but still nice to have the box with it.

And this was a truly awesome find, a Mego Pocket Super Heroes Lex Luthor on card (with that lovely, if ripped, Toys 'R' Us tag on the back), and he was only €50,-.

So, yeah, pretty successful shopping trip. And seeing the family was also nice, I guess. ;)
