Spoilers The Acolyte

The article says only that it is “based on the monitoring of 20 million monthly viewing decisions.” How exactly they monitor viewing decisions I don’t know, but it doesn’t sound like it involves star-ratings.
Hmmm... Ok...

Well there's another option, then. It dives into the deep end of the conspiracy theory pool. Since all numbers provided, based on the streaming service (Disney+) which Acolyte and all these other shows air, come from Disney, we must take these numbers at face value as not having been manipulated in any way. It's no secret that, despite "big numbers", many fans don't find this the best effort in a Star Wars series. Could Disney be cooking the books to make it seem more popular than it really is? Is this really such an improbable scenario? The fox is watching all the henhouses - why wouldn't the numbers be fiddled with to extend a particular agenda?

If Disney were cooking the books, they’d be trying to draw more attention to Andor.

I don’t know how a third-party monitors viewing decisions, but I’d guess there’s more to it than unquestioningly accepting streamer-provided numbers.

Or people actually like it and watch it and don't bother to rate it.
Vindictiveness?
This may actually be what's happening. In the Forbes article @Captrek cited, it says on IMDB that "A full 58% of its 66,000 reviews have given it one star." That is significant. People hate this show SO MUCH that they will go out of their way to shit-rate it. There is some major incongruency here. I seriously have to wonder if this is a battle between Disney trying to cook the books vs hate-watching fans going out of their way to tank the show. Both of these activities may be happening, which could explain the weird numbers.

Update - the graph:

Ah! Reelgood is a streaming provider, and Disney+ is one of the streamers they provide. They simply monitor the behavior of users of their platform. It’s probably fairly representative of all users.

I don’t know how “Streaming and Engagement Index” is defined. But I bet when someone spends hours breaking down an episode frame by frame looking for all the places where the stunt players didn’t really hit each other or whatever, Reelgood goes, “Wow, this user is really engaged with the material!”

There's also some thing with streaming I remember hearing about, that if you stop watching mid-episode and pick it up later it somehow doesn't register as a "complete watch" and can skew numbers, which is why I see people say to watch it all the way through if you like it, or else it won't count.

I honestly don't know how any of this stuff works. It all seems akin to statistics. It involves numbers, but it is NOT mathematics...

Your behavior won’t affect these numbers at all unless you’re using Reelgood to access it.

If you are using Realgood and want to vote as many times as possible, just binge the series over and over nonstop. You don’t actually have to be watching it; just let it run on your device while you’re asleep or at work or otherwise not using the device. I found a definition of SAEI, and it refers to number of weekly views, not unique viewers.

ETA: actually, on second look, the definition also refers to number of “user interactions.” So if you just start the first episode and let the whole series stream without interacting, that might only count once instead of once per episode.

As this point I would genuinely say this is a perfect example of people trying too hard. Trying to hard to be offended, trying too hard to ruin another person's experience, trying way too hard to find the negative.
There’s definitely a competitive aspect to the negative critics. Whoever can find the most things to criticize and express their contempt most intensely, wins.

And the readers and viewers of their pablum lose. Always lose. Their content is....is not very good.

Do people really hate The Acolyte that much? I've been enjoying it, and I thought most of the reviews I saw when it started were fairly positive.
Is it just more of the usual suspects not liking it for their usual reasons, or people actually being unhappy with the writing, directing, acting, ect.?

At this point it's just hatred of Disney.

That was bit of a nothing episode but at least we got some clarification on who the Sith guy is. He was someone his Sith master rejected and tried to kill him. That way he isn't a "proper" Sith but a outcast.
It means that the actual Sith will be hunting him as well if they know he's still alive.
