Spoilers The Acolyte

Oh that's so weird. The Temple is up higher . . . or rather, the city surface is lower at this point. I don't recall seeing it depicted that way in any other High Republic material, but I could be wrong.
the landing pad is also way closer to the entrance of the temple.

Cool trailer, I'm definitely looking forward to the show. More Jedi stuff, but before the prequel era is definitely interesting, and they seem to have a good idea and cast for the show.

ETA: just to show the magnitude of the change side-by-side: -

That's got to be at least 100 meters; to get an idea of the scale those pillars protecting the entrance are *enormous* megaliths. So big that the fight Obi-Wan and Yoda was with the clones happens between them and the door, and that space is so big you can hardly get the pillars in frame.
Also am I imagining things, or do the towers look to have gilding on them now/then?
Perhaps over the centuries the construction of buildings on Coruscant is like the accretion of geological layers?
Well, obviously. I'm just surprised to see the top layer *immediately* around the temple to have moved up so far in just a mere century.
That it is, but the books take place before The Acolyte, so the layers need to be lower in most places.
Clearly that creative decision happened for this show and for whatever reason didn't propagate out to publishing, which probably means it was a relatively recent decision since so far as I can tell, even the more recent comics didn't catch it.

That was a great trailer definitely looking forward to this.
I'm looking forward to getting to see a new period before The Phantom Menace explored onscreen.

Well, the TV spots have started dropping, so as usual this is the point where I duck out, start ignoring promos, and wait for release day!

Be careful if you're in the US and you watch any of the Disney owned TV channels (ABC, Fox, ESPN, the Disney Channels, Freeform) they're showing the ads a lot on them

The Nightsisters in Legends also used them.

Although in legends they were strands/cables that would become charged with energy, not just a blade turning limp like it appears here. They were separate types of weapons, you couldn't just switch modes.

Got out at just the right time, apparently...

Lumiya's weapon in the old EU. It's not as if these weapons didn't already exist in the lore.

Sheesh. You'd think people immersed in a fantasy world could handle "unusual" a little better than this, but no.
I'll be honest; I'm not exactly wild about it myself and would rather it had been left as a Legends thing. For me personally, it just pushes the concept of a lightsaber (already a fantastical concept on it's own) a little *too* far into silliness.
Something I appreciated in 'Clone Wars' is that when they did they Zygerrian arc, the idea of a lightwhip was raised but Lucas & Filloni ultimately went with an electrowhip, since that at least is a physical thing with energy running through it.

All that said; since I'm one of those people that's been keeping up with The High Republic books and comics, I've had a few years to at least get used to the idea that Vern has a lightwhip. I do at least appreciate that even in-universe it's meant to be a weird, exotic, and ancient type of weapon that is all but forbidden by the Jedi.
So I don't have a huge problem with it being in the show; I just hope they resist the urge to over use it in other settings and projects.

I had a similar objection to the increased use of reckless hyperspace jumps that always work out just fine, and sure enough, it opened the door to the deeply silly nonsense that was "light-skipping". Lets hope they don't repeat the mistake.

That's pretty cool. I'm assuming since they had a full studio set up that they must be using it in the show somewhere.

Well, those look great and made me much more excited for the show than the trailers, so, while I also generally try to avoid to much pre-release marketing, I'm glad I watched them!
