The 82nd Annual Academy Awards - discussion thread

Agreed.

That FX looked like it cost a lot more than the $30 million dollar budget. The scenary was great.

Agreed. D-9 had some of the most photorealistic CGI I've seen in a movie. I was astounded by the innovation they showed on such a relatively small budget.

I'm glad we see eye-to-eye on some things.

Yay for common ground! I'm glad you enjoyed Avatar, and I've enjoyed our debate over it's visual merits. :)

I like how "being in the same category as Meryl Streep" is the measure that Oprah used to show how far Sidibe has come.

In fact I've discussed nothing but if you want to get into story that's a whole other topic....:):)

Carey Mulligan is just so darned adorable. She'll get other Oscar chances.

First exposure to her was ofcourse "Doctor Who"

Mine was in Bleak House and the 2005 Pride and Prejudice. I had a feeling she had a fine career ahead of her.

And of course, she was awesome in her Doctor Who episode, too. :)

Tucci was funny.

And Sandra Bullock wins! I was kinda rooting for Meryl or Carey, though. This was a tough year.

Do you think, with its effects and story taken in aggregate, that it deserves a win for best picture? Like I said I wasn't impressed in the least with the plot and dialogue, but they've handed the award to worse.

Good for Sandra. I remember the first thing I ever saw her in was Demolition Man and I liked her even then.
