The 82nd Annual Academy Awards - discussion thread

All the random people I've talked to about Avatar were like, meh ok but I wish I spent my >$20 on something else. I got a far more positive reception for Star Trek from my non-geek friends.

The self-fulfilling prophecy of Avatar's own media hype seems to be the only thing driving ticket sales in my area. Word of mouth certainly isn't.

> $20? Wow, that's a lot. The Imax 3d showing up here was $12.50.

And hence why people in my area are not going back for repeat viewings. They aren't impressed enough to spend that money twice. My friends and I certainly weren't.

Maybe you'd like it better if you moved.:)

Colin Firth has been sadly underused throughout his career (Pride and Prejudice and Bridget Jones aside). Hopefully, his Oscar nomination will bring him more and more good stuff.

Jeremy Renner is cute. Great smile!

No, I quite regretted spending any money on it. I could damn near recite the derivative plot by heart before it even unfolded, the dialogue lacked even a memorable line and again, if this movie represents revolutionary VFX, then maybe we're downgrading our expectations. Like I said before, I felt neither immersed in or convinced by this movie's universe.

I still think Kate Winslet won for the wrong movie last year (and Meryl Streep really should have won for Doubt, anyway).
