That Pathfinder Moment...

Eminence

Fleet Captain
Did u get emotional when the Voyager crew finally made contact with Starfleet in Pathfinder? It aired on Spike today and I'll admit, I cried like a baby even today...

I'm probably in the minority to still be moved (I still lose it when the Doctor comes back from AQ in MIAB as well), but wasn't it an awesome moment back when it first aired??

I liked it better in Eye of the Needle when Janeway and her gang became suddenly crestfallen when their short cut home was stolen from them by a stitch in time.

It was a great moment, I always wished that rather than having Janeway reply to his father saying that he missed Tom, that Tom would have replied right back.

I agree. It is, imho, too in-vogue to bash Voyager. I still think there are some truly quality episodes. Pathfinder is one of them.

Tom was just too emotional himself - after FIVE YEARS of hating his father, the first phone call home reveals that the man was in charge of looking for them all this time. He was speechless, and rightfully so. Tom's reaction to hearing his father's voice was the single most poignant shot of the whole scene, IMO.

It reminded me of that bit in "One Small Step" when they are listening to the Mars astronaut's logs. The astronaut mentions "pilot error" and Tom just gets this look of utter pain on his face - but only for a couple of seconds - remembering the accident that killed three of his friends in his Academy days.

And what idiot writes "Accept" instead of "Except"? That guy really is a loser ;)

Right. That's why the poster above you said that three cadets were killed instead of one.

Except he was never responsible for the death of cadets nor did the Caldik Prime incident occur in his Academy days. He was responsible for the death of three officers and he was already an officer himself having graduated from the academy.

Perhaps the poster was referring to the Paris Backstory as presented in the Jeri Taylor novel Pathways. In that book, Tom's offense occurred during his Academy Years and involved his fellow cadets.

I wonder why she went with a different story than the one presented on screen?
