That BIG canon violation (spoilers)

I'd thought that maybe the opening scene would be the destruction of the orbital ship yards by Nero, necessitating the Enterprise be built on Earth instead, by a different group of people. Clearly ones with a very different aesthetic taste!
 
And maybe the San Francisco shipyards don't necessarily imply that ALL ships there are constructed within the vicinity of the city on the West Coast. Maybe San Francisco's purview of operations covers all vessels built in North America or even the Western Hemisphere?
