Recently I ranked up to Fleet Captain (looks round expectantly, waiting for applause and cheers).

Congratulations!

(I posted it here instead of the original thread because the admins don't generally like us to post "non-business" posts in QSF, so I generally try to oblige them.)

If someone tells you to STFU, remind them, that's right STFU, would you like my STar Fleet Unit number or my STar Fleet Uniform size?

So yes, I will STFU and there's nothing you can do about it.

To quote Scotty..."Up your shaft."

Don't know where to post this question. Has there ever been talk of doing a ST show that's not about Starfleet?

In the SW universe, I'm thinking of Book of Boba Fett or The Mandalorian where it's mostly about bounty hunting or Firefly where it's about an odd jobs crew on a private boat.

They could have done it in Discovery for a season. Burnham had a year where Discovery was still time travelling. We could have seen Book and Burnham doing their thing during that time.

I think Mike McMahan talked about wanting to do a show that's set on one of the planets of the major alien species, like a show set on Orion or something.

It's too bad. They've got this whole universe they can write about, and they're stuck on Starfleet. I mean, Disney / Lucasfilm has proven there's other markets out there.

I know a few of you weren't even alive at the time, but Jan 28th will be the 40th anniversary of the Challenger explosion. I was just listening to a news story on it. I heard the replay of Cdr Scobee say "Roger. Go at throttle up." In my mind, I think, "boom." So sad.

I remember that. My grandmother saw it live on TV, and since that was very early in the morning in my time zone, I wasn't awake yet. She yelled up the stairs that the space shuttle had blown up.

Mind absolutely blown. Hopefully there will be decent coverage of this anniversary. Somebody's got to do it right.

I didn't see it live. I was in study hall in public school at the time.

I remember that and watching it live on a TV broadcast.

I would hope they do something for the anniversary of it, but given this administration not holding my breath

It was at 11:30am my time. I was in my first year of college. I don't believe I saw it live. But I do remember the Congressional inquiry, and then the revelation of the O-Rings. And then to find out it was a preventable tragedy. :censored:

And to think that someone's last words were something as blasé as "Go at throttle up."

There's an excellent podcast on NPR's Sunday Story on it.

Picard would have been better this way. Give Jean-Luc a MilSurp Runabout and let him fly the Galaxy with a small crew and solve Existence Erasing Problems ala Farscape or (ugh) Andromeda.
