Ten Forward Lounge - Miscellaneous General Chat & Welcome Thread

Welcome back, Kativa! You may or may not have any memories of me from your old posting days but your name is a little familiar so I probably saw you in the old forums back in the day.

Thank you! I was here before as Katrine & was pretty far in ranking, so I'll start over as a peon...er cadet...& work my way back up, lol. But u were here then cooleddie, I remember.

Back to just an ensign, eh? Don't worry, you'll work your way back up in no time.

Here's your mop.

Get to it.

Hey all. It's been awhile. Before, I left Maryland to West Yellowstone to help the Buffalo Field Campaign. After a mostly sunny summer, we received over a thousand signatures toward our repeal of Montana's MCA 81-2-120 law that wrongfully puts the Montana Department of Livestock in charge of our National Mammal, the wild buffalo, to adopt a common sense solution to manage wild buffalo like wild elk in Montana. Most of the people we met didn't take long to understand the buffalo's plight, signing the petition in haste and getting family and friends to help the cause. We are some distance from our ten thousand signature goal but we are confident that it will be reached some day. The experience was good overall, with the occasional rancher or DOL sympathizer who have nothing better to do than give us a hard time. In Yellowstone National Park, we shared the grounds with the elk in front of the Mammoth Hot Springs Park Headquarters, enjoyed the heavy tourist traffic at Tower Falls, received many donations at Canyon Village, and we rose the Buffaloon (BFC's blowup buffalo balloon) next to the West Yellowstone Historic Center. Our hopes to get to our goal are high and we here at the BFC look forward to next summers tabling experience.

At the BFC headquarters, we had to collect 20 cords of wood (a lot of wood) for this upcoming winter that I plan to stay through, one of the coldest places in the lower 48. We also built a garage. I had no experience before hand but got to work with some experienced professionals. It turned out great.

I'm currently off on a Roadshow in BFC's name, heading down the west coast of America. The first stop was in Mazula but I personally wanted to go to give my support to the pipeline protest there. Then we stopped in Bellingham Washington to speak at a Unitarian church, followed by a stop at the Hibulb Cultural Center with the Tulalip Tribe, and the Langley Whale Center on Whidbey island. I'm having a blast, meeting many activists like me who are fed up with the treatment of this planet.

I've been taking many pictures but instead of using Deviantart like usual, I'm just going to post them on my Facebook page. Feel free to check it out.

Ahoy everyone! I joined the forums yesterday but I haven't been able to post much. I'm feeling a little ill and nothing I've been typing has been making much sense so I'm waiting until I feel better so I can start writing epic posts! I hope I can make some friends who will listen to me ramble about Star Trek a lot.

croeso :)
Sorry about the delayed welcome - I've been in bed with the flu (I'd have prefered a more handsome partner to share my humble mattrass ;) ) And the board has been unusually inactive lately, so I suppose the flu is rather pandemic atm.
I suppose you caught it, too?

Don't be afraid of posting here. We're all a bit crazy but really harmless. And please don't hesitate to ask if you have a question. We've all been newbies at one point.
This is just the perfect place to ramble about Trek. And as for making friends: quite a lot of the people here have become my real life friends over the years. We even have a few married couples that first met on the board.

Do you have a favourite Trek Series or are you into all of them?

Wow. Hadn't thought about the J Team in ages. We had so much fun.

We had some great times over there, didn't we? And yes, it's been ages since it's been gone, but at least my first embarrassing attempts to communicate in English are as well :)

Dobrý den, SevenJetC! If it's not too personal a question: what region of CZ are you from? Just curious because I'm from Eastern Bavaria so that we're practically neighbours :)

Guten Tag rhubarbodendron, I live in Prague, but I am originally from a village located by the borders halfway between Prague and Dresden, so my neighbouring state was Saxony. But my grandfather was from village by the Cz/Bavaria border and couple of years ago I visited Furth in Wald.

Praha! A beautiful city (and delicious waffles with whipped cream!)
Furth im Wald is only 20 km away from where I was born, but at the moment I live and work farther east. The border approximately between Modrana and Nova Pec is part of my district :)
Your grandfather wasn't by any chance from Domažlice? We had friends there in the 60s but lost contact during the cold war.

My grandfather was from Klenčí, that is about 10 kms to the west from Domažlice. He moved to northwestern region to become a glassmith in the 50s.
