Ten Forward Lounge - Miscellaneous General Chat & Welcome Thread

I used to frequent these boards when I was a very young man.

Welcome back! What used to be your name back then? It's not unlikely we have met under different names.

Bavarian isn't exactly poor in vowels either. We have 37 different ones (and 24 consonants). It's a highly effective weapon to keep other peoples out of our territory

Hi,
I don't know if anyone remembers me. I used to post a lot here until life overtook events. I will be out of country soon with not much to do. So, hopefully, I can get back into the swing of things.

welcome back!
Heehee, sounds like you are in a rather wide orbit. It's time we catch you in our gravitation (*looks down to belly* - hmm, yep, plenty of gravity there as far as I am concerned)

*waves hello* hi everyone, hope to get to know some of you over time. I'm from Canada, and yes, I do say "sorry" a lot. Sorry. :)

Welcome sorry, err, Katatonic ;) don't mind us, we're all a bit crazy but basically harmless and many of us are rather nice even.
Indeed, everyone seems lovely...I was actually sort of scared, having heard about how hardcore Trekkies are, and that always stopped me from seeking out stuff like this before. And then I got older, I grew a set, and I stopped being worried :)

Worries are absolutely ok as they prevent us from doing foolish things.
As for the hardcore Trekkies - I wouldn't advise posting "Kirk killed numerous redshirts because he never listened to Spock. He ought to have been kicked out of Starfleet" in the TOS Forum, but otherwise people here are rather tolerant nowadays. [Disclaimer: this was just an example! The same principle goes for all subforums devoted to a particular series or topic. No offense to TOSers intended, only used TOS as I loathe Kirk *ducks and runs* :D ]
We do have our share of quarrels here, like everywhere in the world, but most of the time they are based on misunderstandings. Part of the prob is that we have posters from many countries and different social and cultural backgrounds here. As we instinctively tend to judge everyone by our own standards, conflicts are sometimes unavoidable. On the other hand, an international community offers a chance to learn about foreign countries and peoples and their values and opinions. I always found that very interesting and helpful - sometimes when you view a problem from a completely different angle you find a surprising solution.

I'm also from Canada and like to say sorry a lot. But because I'm also from Toronto, I say it with unfriendly coolness.

Hi all! *Waves frantically*.

I love Canada. Nice to see so many Canadians joining up!

because I'm also from Toronto, I say it with unfriendly coolness.

Toronto is one of the friendliest cities I've ever been to. It's what got me hooked on Canada! (Well, that...and the poutine...and the beer...and the harbor tours...and Casa Loma...and the Ripley's Aquarium...and the PATH...shall I go on? :D ) If people from Toronto aren't supposed to be friendly, it's news to me, because everybody there has always been very nice to me. :techman:

^ I try! :)

srsly, Toronto is one of my favorite cities I have ever been to. I vacation there at least a week every year. I absolutely LOVE it in Toronto. You should absolutely be proud of being from there. :techman:

And Toronto appeared in an episode of TNG ("Contagion"), so that alone is a feather in its cap. ;)

I admit that when I go up in the CN Tower, I get weak in the knees when I try to walk out onto the glass floored observation platform (seriously, I do. I start shaking like a leaf  ). And when some nutbar starts JUMPING UP AND DOWN on the damn thing, I have been known to run for cover and commence whimpering. But I'm trying to get over that. :alienblush: :D

Oh and while I'm not a Blue Jays fan, I do love SkyDome (I always stay in the hotel inside the stadium - it's a nice hotel and very convenient) and I love the song that Jays fans do during the 8th inning...

You're right, Toronto is pretty damned awesome! Haha! (Which is probably why I refuse to move out of the downtown core).

Glad to hear you are a fan!

or it comes automatically when posting here for a while :D
Welcome, Mommy :) I've never been to Canada yet but it sounds like a very interesting country. After all you host the biggest beaver dam in the world.
(LOL sorry - I'm a biologist and we tend to have crazy interests. Makes us fit in here very well, though :D)

I'm from about a half hour north of the city....where I am still is country for the moment, but there are subdivisions 10 minutes in every direction of me...I like it....except for the coyotes killing our chickens..wouldn't live downtown for the world...too noisey and dirty and smelly. Though, I do wish they'd hurry up and fix the subway at Yorkdale so I can go to the opera hassle free again.

Hello all. I used to post here as well, but lost all my login credentials so I'm starting over. It's been several years, but I do seem to remember seeing "auntiehill" tho! Glad to see a somewhat familiar face, lol.
