that's definitely something worth fighting for! Did you bring an insect repellent? Buffalos usually attract gazillions of simuliids and once they found out that humans have no fur and easily accessible blood, they'll swap victims in no time...

We're in a similar situation over here, trying to reintroduce lynxes to our forrests. Even those with a radiotelemetry collar get killed :( The other day someone strangled a lynx cub to death. We Bavarians are a patient people, but at killing babies of any species we draw a firm line. I think if the enraged people find him before the police does, he'll go to prison in a somewhat damaged state...

I'm usually lucky when it comes to insects, especially when I'm with someone (I guess I taste bad), but we're well stocked up here with multiple types of eco friendly repellents and whatnot.

It sucks you're dealing with baby lynx strangling assholes. I hope he gets caught soon.

Awesome job, bbjeg! Take lots of photos.

I will never understand why someone would find killing an animal to be "fun."

@auntiehill, I'll post some tomorrow. We have computers here but they're off at night and I'll need one to grab the photos off of the camera. It's freaking beautiful out here.

Here's one with me and my brother. I'm the one on the right and click here if you want to see the guy on the left naked. :p I started a gallery on my DeviantArt page. I'll be traveling all around the park so expect more. You can check them out here.

wow! Your brother looks amazingly like my ex. Perhaps it's really true that everyone has a Doppelgaenger somewhere.

Is that landscape typical for the area? It looks very dry and not really able to sustain lots of tall herbivores but then I am not really a good judge on dry biotopes as "my" national park is a rather wet forrest, much like Big Sur in California:

@rhubarbodendron, the pictures I took were only one part of the park, just north of he town of Gardiner. Yellowstone park is 3,468 miles squared and filled with all sorts of landscapes including thick forests, mountain scapes, hot spring, and all sorts of wildlife. The few pictures I took doesn't give it justice but I should have more pictures before I leave here in September. I just added two, one of my house (for two days of the week while I'm not camping) and this one is my front porch. Back in Baltimore, you don't get views like this. Those dirt spots were a tent and a fire pit soon to be replaced by a yurt.

beautiful! It looks a little like the Bavarian Forest National Park, only our mountains are more roundish due to their age.
Yurts are really great. They unite all advantages of both tents and houses.

Yeah, yurts are quite efficient with conserving heat in the winter and blocking the sun and allowing windflow in the summer. It's my dream home.

Welcome back, Kirk's_Tights !
Not only the board's colour has changed over the last decade. The general mood also is much friendlier than it used to be

Hi everyone. Thought I'd say hi as I'm a new member of what looks like a very popular Trek forum.

Been a Trek fan for years, since (believe it or not) my gran introduced me to it when I was in school, a good 30 something years ago. I got hooked on Next Generation when they started releasing it on video over here in the UK and loved everything since. Yes, I love the new movies too - don't hate me.

The only things I struggle with are the animated series and a lot of the fan films (apologies to all those that make them as I appreciate the work that goes into them but they're not all for me).

Looking forward to the new Star Trek Discovery series coming out next year though. It feels like a good time to be a Star Trek fan again for the first time since the 90s.
