Agreed. I don't even write "TOS" (except just now - you caught me!), much less say it.

NOW That's What I Call Star Trek! seems fitting.
The Original Series (abbreviation or full) emerged to differentiate it from what was Star Trek, between 1987 and 1993, for a whole new generation on TV. It just stuck. But three other generations on from TNG, that can get by using their own names... it should maybe change back.
That would bring it into conflict with the JJ Abrams film of the same name of course. So I guess it can't.

Of course I'd use the abbreviation here. But when speaking to the gentiles -- so to speak -- you'd best spell it out in plain English.
When writing about the show on non-Trek forums, I use "Star Trek (original series)". Otherwise, it's just "Star Trek" to me, and it will always be so.
Honestly, before seeing this thread, it never even occurred to me to consider pronouncing any of the various Trek acronyms, rather than saying "T-O-S" or "T-N-G" or whatever. That's how I hear them in my mind when I see them written as well.
In conversation, the only shows I actually refer to by acronym are TNG and DS9, and even then I most often refer to TNG as "Next Gen". For TOS, I usually just say something like "the original Star Trek" and I just say "Voyager" and "Enterprise." I don't even usually write VOY or ENT. They're both one word titles, so it doesn't seem worth abbreviating.
Similarly, though I'll use acronyms to refer to the movies on here, I never use them in conversation. TWOK is "Wrath of Khan," FC is "First Contact," etc. when I actually speak the names.
