A not so gentle reminder to everybody else:
If you can't say anything nice, or at least respectful, about the man, don't say it in this thread.
This thread is also not the place for an extended health care debate or debate on any other policy.
If you see another poster not able to follow these profoundly simple guidelines, use the NM button and don't engage them or call out what you perceive their violation to be in the thread.
Regardless of whether you agreed or not with the late senator's politics or what you perceive to be his character take a look at the coverage of his death. People who were his staunchest rivals are expressing their condolences and sorrow with grace and class, is it too much to expect a little of that here?
I hope you will keep this in mind when a prominent Republican dies rather than allow the standard liberal bashers a free pass as usual on this forum. No more double standards.

I really admired Ted and the other Kennedy brothers.
R.I.P.

In another forum on this board it's called The Reagan Rule. And it's a good rule.
RIP.
Ted Kennedy, in his long career, did more for the poor and the old and the underserved than can ever be measured. Our State and our Country owe him gratitude and respect in spades.
He was a troubled man. Anybody who lost two older brothers to murder would be. But when one older brother is the President of the United States and the other is a United States Senator and both are lost to assassins' bullets, the tragedy (and the scrutiny) is only multiplied. Yet still, despite missteps and mistakes, he went on to a life of service that few can equal.
Good-bye, Senator.![]()
Poor guy. At least his pain is over...and all three brothers are together again.

4 brothers (actually the oldest brother, Joe, died in WW2)

And a Sister who died in an airplane crash when he was very young. Tragedy dogged those people. You forget that he also had another older brother killed in WWII.

When I worked in Medical Records at St. Margaret's back in the 80s, I got a letter from Kennedy asking for the exact time of his birth. I sent him a copy of his birth record with the usual bill, which was about two dollars; he sent me back a check for a hundred. Everybody speculated that he wanted to have his Horoscope done to decide whether or not to run in 88.![]()
