Ted Kennedy Has Died- Be Respectful

Senator Kennedy was apparently a 5th cousin of mine or something. Not that I ever met him.

A not so gentle reminder to everybody else:

If you can't say anything nice, or at least respectful, about the man, don't say it in this thread.

This thread is also not the place for an extended health care debate or debate on any other policy.

If you see another poster not able to follow these profoundly simple guidelines, use the NM button and don't engage them or call out what you perceive their violation to be in the thread.

Regardless of whether you agreed or not with the late senator's politics or what you perceive to be his character take a look at the coverage of his death. People who were his staunchest rivals are expressing their condolences and sorrow with grace and class, is it too much to expect a little of that here?

I hope you will keep this in mind when a prominent Republican dies rather than allow the standard liberal bashers a free pass as usual on this forum. No more double standards.

In another forum on this board it's called The Reagan Rule. And it's a good rule.

Rest in peace and find the serenity you never had in life, Ted. All differences aside, you TRIED to make yourself a better, more sober and upright man and to a good extent you succeeded. God bless, and I hope you are with Rose, Jack, Bobby and all the others you lost.

The Rules here apply equally across the board. Further questions or comments to PM, please. Let's keep this Thread on Topic.

Since the other Thread was closed, I'll just Quote my previous comments:

RIP. :(

Ted Kennedy, in his long career, did more for the poor and the old and the underserved than can ever be measured. Our State and our Country owe him gratitude and respect in spades.

He was a troubled man. Anybody who lost two older brothers to murder would be. But when one older brother is the President of the United States and the other is a United States Senator and both are lost to assassins' bullets, the tragedy (and the scrutiny) is only multiplied. Yet still, despite missteps and mistakes, he went on to a life of service that few can equal.

Good-bye, Senator.

I saw him several years ago at an event in Washington, DC. Whatever anyone thinks of him as a person, he was truly a gifted orator.

RIP.

The man has been through alot of struggles and alot of tragedy in his life - two brothers murdered in cold blood, a beloved nephew and heir-apparent dying WAY too young in a tragic accident, and at the end of his own life, a struggle with cancer.

But he never gave up.

Gotta give him credit for that.

A good article from the McClatchy Papers on how Kennedy's death could help health care reform, with some good quotes from GOP legislators like Orrin Hatch and John Boehner on how Kennedy approached writing laws. -- RR

You forget that he also had another older brother killed in WWII.
And a Sister who died in an airplane crash when he was very young. Tragedy dogged those people.

When I worked in Medical Records at St. Margaret's back in the 80s, I got a letter from Kennedy asking for the exact time of his birth. I sent him a copy of his birth record with the usual bill, which was about two dollars; he sent me back a check for a hundred. Everybody speculated that he wanted to have his Horoscope done to decide whether or not to run in 88. :rommie:

Did you send him $98.00 in change?
