TAS made real....

I initially made the striping follow the contour of the saucer's edge similar to the original drawing, but I fely it looked odd. So I went with the straight edged striping and I feel it looks better. I am also considering adding two small viewports, one on either sides of the main viewport, but set within the blue striping--that could be interesting and not as obvious as a big wraparound viewport. I want to add more bits of setail around the hull such as the panels on the underside for the landing struts and access gangway. There will also be more blue striping on the upper surface along with the registration number as seen in the original drawing.

This is really coming together very nicely. Congratulations on your perseverance! :cool::cool::cool::cool:

I want to say flip the greeble on the outer edge of the wings forward to aft, but that's a minor thing. Nav light top and bottom similar to how you did them on Cyrano Jones' ship? Maybe a couple of those little pointed greebles on the front of that ship on this ship also?

Looking forward to seeing this when it's completed. :) :) :) :)

Beautiful. :cool::cool::cool::cool:

You know, when you are happy with her, as well.as any three view schematics you do, I'd love to see you post two views that replicate the angles of the original two sketches to see how you took two impossible to actually render as drawn sketches into reality! :)

This design could have been almost anything. With different markings it could be Federation or alien. With different scaling it could have served a wide range of ship types.

Original sketch and finished model. It isn't an exact adaptaion--the main difference being the curvature of the upper hull, which I could probably correct if I started again from scratch--but I think what we have here still works particularly for something that never progressed beyond a simple drawing.

Okay, so next it's on to the wierd shuttlecraft seen in "Mudd's Passion."

The image above is probably the best one of this craft. Even so, like many ships in TAS, it lacks in detail and sports some confusing lines. I have built this model before, but I was trying to adapt it as a more realistic sized craft that could fit temporarily within a starship's hangar. I still think thats a reasonable approach even as I try to hew a bit more closely to what we see onscreen.

This model is pure indulgence since I think it's safe to assume that if something like "Mudd's Passion" had ever been filmed live-action during TOS they would have just reused the familiar Class F design. And that makes sense because although the TAS design is referred to as a heavy lander in Alan Dean Foster's adaptation of the episode there is nothing onscren establishing it is anything more than a standard shuttlecraft.

Some distinctive things to note. The nacelle is oddly obscuring the access hatch. The hatch is shown as a one that swings open rather than slides as was pretty much standard on TOS. This craft looks to have rails rather than plates as landing support. It has an odd narrow wraparound viewport. And finally it has a strange elongated fore section.

This is a wierd looking dog, and if it has any logic to its design it escapes me.

Yeah, its a strange one. Going by the interior shot, if that thin black line is the viewport, the flight deck is above the deck inside the hatch. Almost like how a 747 cockpit is above the main passenger deck! The thing is, that line looks TOO thin! But the large gray area is too large to be a viewport, right?

But then, look where the viewports are on the Class F! It would be better if they were overhead viewscreen versions of the Enterprise viewscreen! But we've seen the centre port open in flight, indicating you can fly the shuttle instruments only.

I don't evny you on this one! :)

I think it is another the case where the outside is bigger than the ... outside. Seems like all the shuttlecraft shrink to half size when they get parked in the ship's hanger. That, or the TAS Enterprise is now twice as big. ;)
