Talent Shows...

I find show about finding talent to be ever so boring...like American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance and America's Got Talent...etc.

I was watching America's Next Top Model...and some of the girls are hot...some are cute...but alot of them are not attractive and have horrible personalities.

I don't watch this type of TV anymore...wondering if the rest of you have tuned out or are still tuning in and why???

I live with two women so I am exposed to this garbage whether I like it or not.

I admit to deriving some mild amusement out of the early episodes of The X-Factor, Britain's Got Talent, American Idol etc every year when they bring out the crazy people whose parents have told them they're talented.

I cannot stand them. Never could. And throughout the history of it over the last, what, decade or so, there's only been one clip from any of them that really did anything for me. And that was this one. Mostly because I have a huge thing for underdogs, especially when everyone is shitting all over them.

Compared to younger and prettier vocalist...of course she was the underdog...talent aside...they(network, record companies) want youthful & beautiful face...coz they think that will get ratings and sell records. I don't care for Susan Boyle's singing, but more power to her. I was happy when Taylor Hicks won...even though nothing has become of his AI win...as far as I know. I have pretty much have tuned these shows out though.

[edit] I don't mean compared to anyone from that show...in general...she is going to be an underdog.

I am watching American Idol this year for Ellen DeGeneres, although I have seen some quite talented people make it through, which is good.

I haven't seen it so far...will wait a bit before catching Ellen on AI...but that will be the only reason.

I don't watch ANY of these so-called "talent shows." It's just too vapid and mind-numbingly stupid for me to care about. In fact, these competition-reality programs are all the same. I just don't give a rat's ass about any of them.

I can't say I watch them religiously, but I do enjoy catching the odd episode of these sorts of shows. They're pleasant enough amusements occasionally.

That was my point. That one clip was the only thing out of the entire history of these vapid shows that I've even remotely enjoyed, and only because it was something wholly unrelated to these "talent" shows but humanity in general.

Competitions based on singing or dancing or any similar talent are boring to me, I don't watch them at all really. However, I do like the chef shows and Project Runway. I also watch America's Next Top Model...I don't really think of it as a talent show though, since it focuses more on contestant interaction rather than modeling.

I'd rather watch a show focused on people with talent than one about dysfunctional families. (especially celebrity families)

I've been known to take in the occasional American Idol episode. I like the trainwreck performances, Nelson Muntz Ha Ha style. It's always funny to watch people with completely unrealistic expectations about winning a contest with 100,000+ participants. It's like they never even consider the possibility that maybe someone else will win and that they're not actually the best singer.

Don't like Ellen at all. Should've just gone with a 3 person panel, nobody can fill the void of stupid that Paula left in her wake.

Also... PANTS ON THE GROUND, PANTS ON THE GROUND, LOOKIN' LIKE A FOOL WITH YOUR PANTS ON THE GROUND!

I watch some but not others. I like Strictly because of the glamour, and I watch the early rounds of X Factor and Britain's Got Talent for the car crash-ness of it all. The rest I don't bother with.

Back when I was a kid, I liked Star Search alot...the shows now just miss that quaintness that it had.

what's kind of sad in a way is that people are now almost feeling entitled to have their "15 minutes of fame" no matter how car wrecky it is. They could go on Idol make a complete and utter ass of themselves, but as long as they're cute or have an interesting angle, they could probably get some stupid company pay them some money for doing stupid stuff again. If you asked 100 people at random what would they rather do, "go on American Idol/XFactor/AGT/whatever or take a $100 bill." probably more than 3/4's would pick the go on Idol and make an utter ass of themselves.

In a way though, part of me wonders this... with the advent of excellent software and hardware for recording that you can buy at places like Best Buy or Target or anywhere really... and with places like YouTube, MySpace Music and other sites ... who really NEEDS a recording company? I mean, all they'll do is take most of your money and say its for "promotion." Yeah. Right.

I watch a lot of the competition shows: top chef, project runway, top model, etc. I generally don't watch the singing competition shows, though.

I like Project Runway and Top Chef because they showcase people who are very talented.

Mostly because the people who were on Star Search actually had talent (and a few of them even had careers after the show ended [one of them was Lacey Chabert, who ended up on Party Of Five years after she was singing on Star Search]).
