I wrote my initial draft before reviewing the re-investigation of Wood's death, in which the yacht captain said he had lied the first time around. I hadn't known that. So I then edited my post and took out the "neither husband" bit, which was true back when I read Thomas Noguchi's book Coroner, but is on shakey ground now.

Shatner sees the fans 1) as a way to earn $$$ and 2) with contempt.

Pretty much what I take away from him. I like his acting though.

In all fairness to the Shat, some of the Trek fans are batshit crazy. Dealing with some of them over the years would sour anyone.

I had a co-worker at the time ask why Shatner didn't dive in the pool to save her. I looked him square in the face and said "You realize he's 75 years old."

He went "I did not know that."

There's no reason to suspect Shatner of wrongdoing in Nerine's death. So I must object to that part of your post.

My one 'interaction' (more like non-interaction) with Kirk & company was at the first ST convention in Manhattan back in '72. It was at the Hilton, and my sister and her friend wanted to get 'good seats' for the main presentation, so went in the big ballroom over an hour early (and it was already filling-up). Me, being a little nine-year-old jerk on the loose in NYC decided to ride the elevators up and down until it was show time. I get to the top floor, and in walks the entire cast, sans Shatner & Nimoy. My jaw was on the floor - it was like being in a tiny little room with your 'gods'.

I believe it was Doohan (although it may have been Kelly - my brain was barely functioning) that saw me looking around expectantly, who said, "he's probably looking for the captain" (if it was said sarcastically, my kid-brain was unaware). Takei just looked down and said, "They don't ride with us", and then looked back straight ahead. Very impersonal and direct. But for some reason it bothered me so much he felt the need to say that. In my head, they were all great friends who hangout all the time together, and that was a sudden face-slap of grown-uppedness I wasn't ready for.

That's when they noticed I had pushed all the buttons... LOL
