Take part in my Bible Study - week 3 - "Hard Time"

Week 3 of the study, and it seems to be improving each week. There has already been a request to continue with another 10 week study this summer for some of college students that will be in town. Today's episode focused on the episode "Hard Time". Here are some questions I presented, along with some Bible passages that tend to relate to what I had in my mind when answering these questions.

1.What did you observe and learn from Dr. Julian Bashir throughout this episode?

I Peter 2:19-23

2. Let's assume the Ee'char character in Miles' imagination is also the real Ee'char. What did you observe and learn from him throughout this episode?

3. There's no question that Dr. Bashir makes some great points to Miles that saves himself from committing suicide. Let's take a look at some of these points and discuss what is so great about them:

3a. Miles says when he killed Ee'char, he was no better than an animal. Julian's reply is "An animal would have killed and not given it a second thought, not shed a tear. But you hate yourself so much for what you have done."

James I:22-25

3b. "For one brief moment you were stripped of your humanity and gave in, but you can not let that moment define your entire life."

I John 1:9

Jeremiah 31:34

Phlippines 4:8

3c. "If you pull that trigger and kill yourself, then they will have won."

I Peter 5:8

4. What do you feel you gained most from this episode that we can take and use as Christians?

5. Final Thoughts?

I am, unfortunately, a bit pressed for time so I can't give your idea the analysis it deserves, Dominion Ruler, but I just wanted to say...jeez, what an interesting idea, using Trek as a structure for a continuing Bible study. I may have used it as an example now and then, but an entire series would literally never have occurred to me. I'll try to give you more feedback - and more constructive feedback - sometime when I have more time.

Thanks for the positive feedback. And part of the reason I wanted to do this is to incorporate the open mindedness of Star Trek into the study, because sometimes Christians have limited thinking and narrow views, but I don't believe this way of thinking is very successful. Hoping and praying it all works for the best!

This sounds interesting - my love for DS9 came at a very "rich" time in my early christian walk also. I personally have come to believe that there is some hidden connection lol.

While we're on the subject, i'd like to invite you guys - and anyone who's interested - to participate in the TNZ thread I started about twenty minutes ago. It's about Jesus and the Bible - and its a pretty good gamble that most of the TNZers won't like it.
