That's not what it was.
Well, technically not, since they have to make an emergency landing, with the South African government taking them in, living among the rest of the population, which is where the political commentary comes in. They still end up causing trouble for the population which wants to evict them. But it's a movie that subverts many expectations.

Could use a remaster. TNG is downright amazing in 1080p, with updated visuals and all the colors that now pop like they never popped before (I've been rewatching this past week).

Star Wars is a big universe, so I don't see why they shouldn't be able to include as many different types of people as possible. No group deserves to be excluded, and everyone deserves to have heroes who are like them.
Not according to the super excited little girl Star Wars fan I met last week, who loves Rey and even sees her character flaws and how she learns from them. Your arguments come down to asymmetrical application of standards and criteria in order to reach a preordained conclusion.
Same with my daughters and my friends' daughters who dress up as Rey and create Lego characters with Rey, etc.
