Syfy gets GLAAD

Then why was Claudia wasting screen time. Jinxy could have been on screen and done as little as her.

There were no guest stars in a bottle episode set in the warehouse and Ashmore was absent almost the entire episode then too.

I am really not seeing your complaint here. I think you are finding fault where none exists.

.

Because Claudia is one of the stars of the show, whose life was actually saved by Helena, and Jinks is a new addition that has no emotional connection to H. G. Wells?

That kind of like asking, "Why was Data wasting screen time when they could have used Ensign Ro instead?"

The emotional connection was with Myka. If I remember my TNG correctly, the correct analogy would more like why would they be wasting time with Worf when Vashti is in the story?

And the bronzing?

The New Guy in the SyFy ads has led in his origin story, played sympathetic onlooker in a Claudia/Artie story, been bronzed, been absent and partnered with Claudia in one episode's B-story. And the character even has a superpower! It's looking peculiar.

Claudia is a series regular and depending on her contract, gets paid for every episode, and thus has to appear in every episode.

Jinx is a recurring character and is typically paid per episode. Why would they waste money casting him in an episode just to be wallpaper.

Save the money for episodes that need him.

No, it really isn't. We are just a few episodes into the season.

I don't think he was intended to be a regular; he's not standing there with the rest in the title sequence.

Sam Adama? He was in the opening credits.

I think he meant Jinks on WH13.
Yup, that's who I meant.

The credits are irrelevant at this point. (And they don't include Genelle Williams if I remember correctly. I tend to tune out credits unless I like the theme music.)
No, she's not in the title sequence, because she's not a regular. She's a recurring character.

Oh, you meant Vash.

Nah, that's doesn't quite fit. Vash was just a guest-star who appeared on only two episodes of TNG. Ensign Ro is a better comparison to Jinks at this point, a late-addition semi-regular with potential, but not an established fixture like Data or Worf.

I think you may be underestimating Claudia's role on the show. She's one of the stars, not some minor supporting character, so it seems odd to complain that she's getting more screen time than the new guy . . . .

Again, she's like Worf or Data, one of the big-name popular characters. And they did make a point of mentioning that she missed H.G., which is not a line they could have given to Jinks . . . .

Since I believe Jinxy was intended as a partner for Claudia, I hardly think I'm underestimating the importance of the Claudia character. But the only one important in the latest H.G. story is Myka, which emotionally is about Myka's reaction to H.G. and the Sixties' agents parallels/contrasts to Myka/Pete. Having Jinxy around to tell Myka when she is or isn't lying could have been used or he could have dropped a line about how spooky it was not to be able to read a hologram. It wasn't necessary to ship him off.

Which reminds me, the question of how they're going to handle Jinxy's lie detection when Pete and Myka talk to each other about their feelings could be logically handled three different way. Pete/Myka don't interact romantically when he's around. Jinxy refuses to say. Pete/Myka refuse to ask and demands he stay silent. They should be able to make a decent character centered episode out of that issue, if they're not afraid to have him on screen that much.

Also, not to be too picky, but Genelle Williams is a regular character because she's listed in the cast credits, before the guest starring credits. Which is the technical definition of being a regular. C.C.H. Pounder is a recurring character, as is H.G. Both Genelle Williams and Allison Scagliotti went through a period as guest stars before moving up to regular.

Well, you're right about that. I stand corrected. Jinks does seem to be considered a recurring character, though, if you believe the Wiki page.

Were there a couple of gay or bi characters on Babylon 5? It's been a while since I last watched any episodes, and I have memory issues due to a medical condition, but I could have sworn there were at least two gay folks on B5. ???

Ivanova had feelings for both Talia and Marcus.

The Talia personality we knew for the first two seasons also appeared to have feelings for Ivanova.

Are these the characters you're thinking about?

There were also those two guys in that "Lower Decks" type episode. They were maintenance men. I think it was written by Harlan Ellison.

I don't remember that being in the episode at all (which was, by the way, scripted by JMS; Harlan Ellison was only credited for the story, with JMS).

Yeah, I can't find any references. I just remember watching it and thinking, "Oh, that's cute, they're a couple," but I can't remember why.
