SW blu-rays have changes to the films again

The nonanamorphic movies certainly don't look great on a huge widescreen tv, but they are acceptable on a regular square tv. It is better than VHS at least.

I have my widescreen laptop if I want to watch movies in better quality.

What specifically is wrong with it? I don't see any problem.

I'm glad you're happy with it, but it looks like garbage on any widescreen TV that I've ever seen.
I have a wide screen plasma screen TV, and it looks just fine.

Maybe if you weren't comparing it to the extra sharp and clean HD version.

I tried it on my plasma, and the blacks were looking pretty faded and the detail just wasn't there.
I have not noticed any faded blacks in the picture, but even if I did it would be better than putting up with the changes in the special editions. That disk hasn't even been out of the case. I might as well use it as a coaster. Thanks for the answers.

I wouldn't be surprised if these changes were real. The krayt dragon actually sounds horribly produced though.

There wasn't anything wrong with the first version of the yell in the first place. Obi-Wan simply screamed outloud with a strange yell to scare off the sandpeople. What the hell is a krayt dragon anyway?

Interesting. It just goes to show how fast tech moves I guess.

Which is EXACTLY why I won't convert to Blue Ray. It attempted to replace DVD TOO fast, and DVD had been around for six years before I got to it. Also, TV shows and movies are still being released on DVD, and NOT Blue Ray because the effect and whatnot can't be "Up-converted".

All this tells me that DVD will be around for decades, while Blue Ray may or may not. Nope, I'm sticking with DVD, thanks.

Krayt Dragon on Wookiepedia.

The skeleton of a Krayt Dragon was seen in A New Hope. Interestingly, according to the wookiepedia artice, the giant skeleton is still sitting there in the Tunisian desert. Can you imagina an archeologist finding that in 1000 years?:guffaw:

I wasn't seriously expecting an answer to that post.

I hate the EU and how it tries to explain EVERYTHING. Sometimes it is better not to know the backgrounds of everything single character in the Mos Eisley Cantina. Leaves a bit of mystery.

Expect for the Thrawn trilogy novels. Those I like. I consider them the true sequels to the OT.;)

For those who haven't heard, the audio to two scenes were leaked. The bit where The Emperor electrocutes Luke and when Obi-wan scares away the sandpeople.

They audio has been matched to 2004 dvd footage.

Awful, ain't it?

 I can't believe people actually buy that those audio tracks are real.

I loved the comment from the second one:

So THAT's what "I just saved $90" sounds like.

A krayt dragon is EU bullshit that's been designed to explain every single little detail possible in the Star Wars movie imaginable. Every. Single. Creature in the movies has his own Wookiepedia page and likely a trilogy of novels dedicated to him.

Want to know what the guy's deal at the bar was who harassed Luke? He's got more of a backstory the Princess Leia and a legion of fans dedicated to him.

So when Lucas first laid that skeleton there he had no plan for it, no idea what it was and thought no further on it. Forty years later here we are with an entire expanded story on that skeleton's species and I'd bet that particular skeleton's owner has entire stories centered around just it to show how it ended up there.

The EU is a mess of shit seeking to explain exactly where every piece of subatomic matter in the Star Wars universe came from, where it is going and why.

So, hey, because of all of that why not make Obi Wan's call more "krayt dragony" instead of just a generic "animal call" to scare off the Sand People (all of whom each have their own six-novel series dedicated to every waking moment of their life up to that moment and to the point where they go back to their hut and draw pictures of the dragon in the sand).

Who knew Obi-Wan was the Michael Winslow of the Star Wars universe?

I think the next edition of the movies should be The Star Wars Saga: Wilhelm Scream Edition. Every single scream, yell and yelp in the six movies is replaced with the infamous Wilhelm Scream Georgie boy is so fond of.

@Candlelight: Shame, shame! :p

A krayt dragon is EU bullshit
From my Star Wars novelization by George Lucas (ghostwritten by Alan Dean Foster), copyright 1976, paperback, second printing, page 72:

Star Wars said:
"That's a krayt dragon call!" Luke gaped in astonishment "How did you do that?"

"I'll show you sometime, son...."
No, sorry. It has been specifically a "krayt dragon" since before the first film was released.

I sense much anger in you.

Less "anger" and more of a "knock it the fuck off, George."

When are they ever going to be done and perfect?

Okay, so the first special editions done in the 1990s were done to use the new computer effects of the time to do things he could never do in the original production either due to budget or technology. Fine. I can mostly forgive him for that.

But then I wonder how much all of the CGI bullshit added into the foreground and background adds to the movie? More often than not it's more like an annoying flash-ad in a sidebar you just have to right-click on and block because you can't take it anymore.

But maybe he actually did want these things. Maybe he did want huge dinosaurian creatures to cross in front of the camera during our introduction to Mos Eisley, maybe he did want that singing bullshit "Jedi Rocks" stuff, maybe he really wasn't happy with the "Yep! Yep!" song at the end of Jedi.

Okay, great.

What was in 1977, however, that precluded him from having Greedo shoot first and then to have Han react to that shot?

What was in 1982 that, apparently, stopped him from having Vader scream "Noooo!" as Luke is being force-lightning'd?

If he had all of these movies planned out from the beginning why the sexual tension/triangle with Luke, Leia and Han? Why the younger Anakin force ghost?

Why were the original three movies changed at all to try and make the new three make sense?

None of this stuff over the last 15 years has been about him wanting to "right wrongs", correct mistakes or do things he always wanted to do but couldn't. It's all about picking at that scab on his arm because it itches so much and scratching it gives him a huge windfall.

For me, though, he's getting no more money out of me. Not unless he actually puts out decent, high-quality, versions of the original movies. Sooner or later I hope the rest of the planet does this same thing and that scab of his finally falls off and leaves him a nasty scar.

Leave. It. Alone. Lucas! The guy is a walking joke now when it comes to this stuff. It's been shown time and time again that whenever someone says "Lucas plans on..." and then describes Lucas taking one of his old movies and then revamping them with modern techniques to get "what he always wanted", no matter what you say there people will believe it.

If I heard tomorrow Lucas planned on making an entire new editions of the films by replacing Mark Hamil's Luke with Shia LeBouff using computer technology I would believe it.

Because I think Lucas has lost his mind that much.
