Survivor Season 38: Edge of Extinction/The Amazing Race 2019

I had no idea AR was on until my dad emailed me asking me if I was watching it. Was it advertised during Survivor? I guess I have mostly been watching it the next morning.
It wasn't advertised here (even if I specify the CBS channel to watch the show on, simulcasting means I have to watch the Canadian network instead). It might have been on the American network. All I know is that I didn't switch the TV off immediately, and heard Phil Keoghan rattling something off about The Amazing Race. So I kept the TV on and there it was.

It makes sense to have it on Wednesdays; saves having to remember what other days it was on.

As for last night's episode... dammit, Rupert... :(

Got done in by a stubborn elephant.

No idea who will win Survivor. If I had to bet I might say Ron? With Lauren and Victoria next tier, Rick and Gavin after that, then Aurora with Julie in last.

Of course who the hell knows if whoever comes back has a shot. I assume Joe will win but if there’s a puzzle David is in play. And who had the practice advantage? I forget. I have trouble seeing a returner winning but who knows?
Everyone I was cheering for has been voted off, so for me the only acceptable winner is one of the veteran players. I'd even take Kelly Wentworth winning (if she were to come back), but I was really hoping this would be the season when Joe would win.

I absolutely cannot stand Reem. What a sour attitude she's had throughout everything.

The last time a practice advantage was available, it was Aubry who found it.

Joe could still conceivably win out the challenges.

Amazing Race had a good start. You kinda knew Rupert would be out early. He’s tough and likable but in terms of physical chops and common sense, not as much. But Colin seems to have genuinely grown as a person and even the Rileys are more tolerable than before.

I'm so over the remaining men on survivor talking about nothing but how great they are and how them and some other guy are such targets. I'm glad the women have noticed they aren't being taken seriously and I really hope they notice they outnumber the men.

I also cast my vote for hating Reem and still holding out hope that Joe could win

That was a satisfying tribal council. But now the Extinction gang will have to put up with this jerk.

Why couldn't last week have been the non-elimination leg? :wah:

So satisfying. Couldn't believe his exit interview. "I didn't know getting voted out would hurt so much" what an idiot. I love the way Rick played his idol.

The non-elimination got used on a team with little or no chance to win. Surprised to see it that early, I'd rather see it on U turn legs because I hate U turns and find them unfair.

There's officially a team I'm rooting against, Corinne & Eliza. First Corinne insulted the cab driver to his face, then Eliza made those loud screams just to disrupt Victor's practice. Also I'm not a fan of how Rachel just focused on how her sister was making the mistakes instead of encouraging her. Still surprised Colin doesn't appear to be an asshole anymore, he was one of the biggest assholes in the show's history.

This season it's like every time a person appears to be in charge of a few tribal councils they're voted out the next episode. No idea who's going to win now. Seems completely up for grabs. And I don't know when people are coming back but there's still two idols at the Edge. It would be funny if the losers of the Edge competition handed off their idols to the winner.

That was beautifully played! I loved seeing their smug grins turn to "uh-oh, we're screwed" expressions.

Every time Corinne talks I hate her more. Like her every word is a variation of “I’m better than people”.

In case anyone hasn’t watched it yet.
YES! Holy crap. Some Corinne quotes from this episode:

“We didn’t grow up in a trailer park, we don’t drive mopeds”.
“I hate manual labor!”
And to top it off her hate rant next to the Rileys. Rachel has never looked more classy and likable than standing next to those two.
Good. ****ing. Riddance.

Another perfect tribal for Rick. And even better, he is going into the next one with no one knowing if he has an idol or not. Even though he literally showed it to them and said I have an idol. Lol

Since it's unlikely Joe will be back, I will have to hope for Rick or Gavin to win. I don't like any of the remaining women.

As for TAR... yikes. What sore losers.

Rick has has two pretty effing incredible back to back Tribals, wow

Was so sure he was going to play his idol and was ecstatic when he didn't

I'm definitely on team Rick

Season Finale next week!

Gavin is the other person who has arguably played a victory worthy game. Julie has done nothing, I like Victoria but also she has done nothing. Lauren, I wouldn't be too incredibly sad if she won but most of her resume is from the first half of the game. Remember she still has an idol and nobody but Kelly has any idea. That's also an interesting angle, if Aubry or Kelly comes back, they bring idols back with them.

We have to consider that technically, all but two players are still in the game.

Damn it. Worst possible outcome.

We have a new contender for “Least deserving winner in history”. Almost as undeserving as that girl Russell brought with him his first season.

Not a fan of next year’s gimmick either. Sounds like something that might be fun of the first episode or two then only serve to eat up time that should be spent on the players socially interacting.

Yeah whatever so when it came to the last 3 everyone was deserving than the one beside them.......but did you hear Jeff say Cochrane and david are both writing for star trek? What the what now???

I was rather underwhelmed with the conclusion of Edge of Extinction as it was playing out, but the reunion show helped me get to a place where I could understand and accept the outcome.

Waiting until the literal endgame to bring a player back into the fray wasn't really the best decision on the part of the producers, as the Final Tribal demonstrated, but I do think we should have expected the theme of the season to play a key role in the outcome of it based on the conversations that happened during the reunion show and what was revealed about the vote count and who voted for whom.

I guess he did talk two people into just giving him idols. That’s pretty impressive.

Based on that trailer, I’m guessing the Robot Who Definitely Did Not Have To Audition is no longer hosting BB?

Wow. That was so not worth losing sleep over (I had to run an errand last night while the show was on, so I programmed the PVR and ended up watching it early this morning instead of sleeping).

Why couldn't Joe have won that last Extinction challenge? :scream:

Turns out the jury did get to go to Ponderosa after all. I'm still searching out all the videos, but here's Rick's:

As for next season... yuck. I don't get why Sandra is so popular; she just annoys me. Ditto the other one.

At least Joe didn't say no to being asked back at some point... :D (that was an unnecessary crack about his hair; he mostly wore it up during the game)
