Surviving the Amazing Race

Once again, I am not displeased at the choice people made for who to vote off. Damn, that woman was annoying.

Bravo, Tai!

Can't say she didn't deserve to get voted out.

Going up to your ally and saying "By the way, I am thinking of voting you out" is the easiest way to quickly lose. She was in no danger until she said that.

She flat-out lied about the all-girl alliance, didn't she? She's the one who brought it up first, or did I imagine that?

Re: Amazing Race. Again, not sorry to see this team go. Actually, there's only one or two teams that I would even mildly regret seeing eliminated. And I don't even remember their names.

Jenny's heart was in the right place. She liked Alecia and Kyle Jason was being a dick - not bothering to learn Alecia's name, making fun of her, etc. - so she considered flipping. Her mistake was how she answered Jeff's question, and in her panic when she started backpedaling she completely melted down. Alecia, on the other hand, saw an opening and used it perfectly. She's a fighter.

So far they're doing quite well in voting out the people I don't like.

Good for Tai, but hopefully he's not the one evacuated next week for medical reasons.

That other tribe that got the idol... damn, those women are stupid. They basically just handed the idol to the men.

I don't think the women were stupid. Alesha thought she could trust Cydney, Cydney didn't want Alesha to get it so she went to Jason.

Man, what were they thinking with the design of that leg? If the models had been just a little faster they could have equalized all nine teams directly before the sprint to the mat. They used to have that early in the show's run but got a lot better about that until now.

Yeah, it seemed like a weirdly-planned one. But that incessant whining that "nobody wants to help me" did grate a bit.

And so did that idiotic question one of the women asked: "What country is Switzerland in?"

Wow. How did the producers and medical personnel not see this happening? THREE people requiring medical intervention, and one person pulled from the show.

I hope they let Caleb try again on another season. Damn, that was a shame.

Not unhappy with the tribal council vote, though. What an unlikeable bunch of people. I hope none of them wins.

Scott was being so incredibly condescending there. Alesha was being bratty but bratty or not I see somebody talk to another person like that I cease to associate with them.

Sucks to lose Caleb as he was one of the stronger players in the game.

I think what the producers didn't expect was the bag hunt taking so long. They expected it to take a few minutes. They don't talk about just how hot it is out there but it seems like it's hotter than it ever has been.

From my own experience with near-heat stroke, it was probably in the high 30s, with added humidity (I'm speaking Celsius; I don't know what that corresponds to in Fahrenheit, but it's far beyond my comfort zone. That, coupled with all the exertion they were doing while not in the shade and not drinking enough water, was enough to take some of them down.

I didn't like Caleb much when he was on Big Brother, but he was doing pretty well on Survivor, and was on my short list of people I was hoping would win. What a shame.

That was a very well designed leg, and possibly the most dangerous one in the show's history. It explains why they ended the previous leg the way they did, they needed to make sure the entire leg happened in the day.

Agreed. And I see they had spare clues attached to the side of the mountain, taking into account that some of them would be accidentally dropped/blown away.

Was the eliminated team the same one that ran around looking for lunch, not understanding that the bread in their backpack was actually food? (not that I'd eat the thing since it didn't appear to have been wrapped in anything to keep it clean)

As far as danger goes, I had a momentary thought: they'd probably never do it, but those cliffside board walkways attached to the mountains in China would be something to see. You have to be basically fearless to do that, though, and there wouldn't be room for any camera crew. Those boards are narrower than half the width of a normal sidewalk.

That bit of dialogue between the father and daughter was funny - about her saying she could get married in the church they passed, and him saying, "if you ever get your boyfriends sorted out." That gives the impression that he'd be relieved if she found someone - anyone - and just made a decision!

Interesting take on how to resolve uneven numbers.

I'm happy that my favorite is still in the game.

Is Amazing Race off for two weeks for basketball or is it airing some other time?

Tai might be the most likable person we've ever seen in Survivor but unfortunately can't imagine him winning. I don't know who is going to win this year, no obvious favorite. Clearly not Peter. Jason and Scott might make it to the end but not with any votes. Debbie comes on very strong and she might make a few good power moves but have trouble convincing a jury when she acts like she thinks she's smarter than everyone.

I will guess Cydney and Neal have the best shot.

Amazing Race will be back in April. Of course CBS doesn't care that some people will have forgotten and will be annoyed at the pre-emption.

Debbie's social game is very wearing. She talks tough and performs adequately in challenges, but doesn't temper it with likeability. I predict that she won't last long after the merge.

I hope Tai at least makes it to the jury. Of all of them he's the only one left who I think actually deserves to win.

Tai deserves to win the nice person contest but not Survivor. Thankfully in Survivor the nice person contest has a $100000 prize.

What has Tai done to take him out of the running? He works around camp, makes an effort to get along, was pro-active in finding the idol, does his best in the challenges, engages in strategizing the votes without being obnoxious...

He's been super-likable. Nobody in their right mind will let him anywhere near the final three.

They trust him enough to let him slide for now because there are nine more chances to get him out and nobody's worried about him getting on an immunity streak. He is liked enough to get other people to include them in their plans, but not enough of a salesman to sell them on his. And since there isn't a single person who wouldn't vote for him in the finals, their plans will not get him past 5th or 6th.

But like I said, Tai still walks away from this with $100,000 ;)
