Supernatural, season 11 *SPOILERS!*

That woman was just a Reaper, not the new Death.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Billie as the new Death--we've seen angels step up and take on the role of leader of heaven (and, in Metatron's case, the role of "the new God"), so I actually have a fairly easy time imagining a Reaper stepping in to fill the role of Death.

Yes, it wasn't actually stated in the ep, but she did talk like she was in charge, or planning to be.

I really really really don't want old Death to be gone, but recently the show has a history of dumping beloved characters in a pretty paltry way, e.g. Charlie, Garth (and I personally was really pissed when Balthazar left the show). I'd love to see Death return, but I'm not going to hold my breath. :(

I doubt he's really dead, just somewhere putting himself back together and planning to revenge himself very terribly on the brothers. Maybe even unlocking Lucy's cage just as a final FU to them, not bothering to manifest on Earth again after that.

Yes, it could make sense if Death, when killed, ended up in the Cage. Don't know if it's so, though....

Well, I'm glad Cas is no longer "cursed," and I really liked watching Crowley and The Darkness Kid together; also liked "the two guys" at the bar. It reminded me of the old "wolf and sheepdog" Warner Brothers cartoon.

I could live without Rowena, however. She's just annoying.

I think Rowena has grown on me. ;) When the waiter at the restaurant killed one of the witches and went after Rowena, it didn't make sense until I later realized that Crowley had sent one of his minions to "assassinate the bitch."

Dean and Cas had a good exchange toward the end when the angel apologized for his actions and for hurting Dean. "You're right. There are no words because they're not needed," says Dean. "You were under a spell." Still, Dean refused to be healed, thinking back to the time he hurt Cas when he had the Mark of Cain.

I had the same thought about the scene with the Angel and Demon. Even if it's not quite at the level it once was, I think it's a good sign that Supernatural can still give us great scenes like that.
I'm also glad that Cas is cured.
Really like Crowley and Amara. I was a little surprised that we saw Amara talking to The Darkness in the mirror. I had thought she was The Darkness, but apparently the relationship is more complicated than that.
I actually kind of like Rowena. But I am hoping the next time they catch up to her they actually finish her off. It's going to get ridiculous if she keeps getting away. Once or twice is fine, but after that it just starts to annoy me.

They'll probably do something like making Cas and Rowena a couple.

^ Which psychopaths here did not love Garth?
Me, for one.
Garth was good in very small doses. A scene here or there, and I liked him. Entire episodes with him was a bit much.

The appeal of Garth was that he was this goofy, overly-friendly guy who against all expectations was also a great hunter. It was that contrast that made him entertaining.
Sometimes the writers screwed up and just played him as wacky comedy relief. Then they ruined him completely in his final episode by suddenly making him stupid and incompetent, repeatedly screwing up and getting himself or others into danger.

Yeah, his final episode really soured the character.

***

I'm excited for next week's episode. The concept sounds interesting and it's written by Robbie Thompson, so I think we're in for a treat. Fingers crossed. :)

Tonight's episode was, candidly, very interesting--and, for something that had shades of being both a MotW show and a mythology show, managed to hold my attention the entire way through. It may not be high on the rewatch list when the whole season is out, but speaking only for myself, it gives me renewed hope that even this season's MotW episodes might be quality shows and not filler.

(I still haven't quite gotten over "Bloodlines" from season 9...yech!)

I've also got a theory about what's going on and where things are heading. Episode 1, we had visions of what appeared to be The Cage; then tonight, we have a vision of a young John Winchester, played by the self-same actor who played him in season 5 when Anna went back in time.

If you recall what happened at the end of that episode, then you know what my theory is and who is sending those visions.

^I thought that, too. I hope the truth is at least somewhere in that ballpark.

Great episode--had some quite character moments we don't often get as well as some great action.

I love how the Impala seems to collect stuff that the boys will need later. It's like the Tarids; it may not take them where they want to be but it takes them where they NEED to be.

Best episode of the season so far.

Robbie Thompson continues to deliver the best scripts each year. And Thomas Wright deserves his share of the credit for this episode -- a story limited to a car's POV had to really challenge his creative muscles.

The scene between the brothers as they're about to turn in for the night in the Impala is now one of my favorite moments from the entire series. Just them talking (it almost drifts into secret-keeping drama, but they defuse it fairly quickly) more about their lives than the Big Bad of the season or the case of the week. When given solid material, Jensen and Jared always deliver the authentic feel of being brothers.

It was a good scene, but I found Dean's skepticism here just a tad arbitrary. I mean, in the last ten seasons, they've seen stranger stuff than simple visions--they also know that prayers can and do get answered (see any episode where an angel references hearing a prayer).

It's like the classic problem in Star Trek--most of the time, our characters are skeptical or disbelieving when strange things happen. Yet, they see strange things happen week after week--why not start with the possibility that some outside phenomena or technology might be the culprit, instead of starting with the possibility that someone is losing their faculties?

Same thing here...given everything he's seen and done, why would Dean suddenly be doubting that someone could be sending Sam visions? Even if it's not God, we still have an entire heavenly host, one archangel (Gabriel, or so say the producers), and two caged archangels. Since Lucifer "whispered under the door" before, why couldn't he or Michael be doing the same thing again now? We know that both of them are aware of what's going on, or so we were told in the season premiere.
