Supernatural 4x2 "Are you there God...?" SPOILERS/discussion

I really liked Meg calling them on the fact that, had they realized she was a girl possessed, just 50 words of Latin would have saved her life. It's true. Meg's story is pretty tragic. Of course, it's really the demon's fault, but it was the perfect guilt button to push--and Sam *is* dealing with Ruby, a woman possessed.

I was glad to see Meg back. Best demon in my opinion. I really felt for her. She wasn't evil, just possessed, and they were so intent on destroying her, they didn't think about saving her. But they are human, and humans make mistakes. Sam doesn't treat Ruby the same way he did Meg. Kinda hypocritical. I don't mind Ruby, but she has no purpose. As of yet.

Well outside of the actual possession aspect (of which it could be midigated), Ruby has actually acted (that we know of) in a manner the guys generally might. SHe has killed demons, and generally doesn't enter fight unless it is absolutely necessary.

Meg (the demon) on the other hand would hurt just for hurts, sake, not to mention all the none possessed humans she has killed, or attempted to kill.

I do wonder if Ruby, has tried to midigate the negative aspects of possessions by possessing people who were already dead,or people that were like Dean in In MY Time of Dying (people who souls have already departed their body and are beyond normal healing), or if she is just possessing random people. Becuase if she is doing that then she is actually doing less morally wrong things then Sam and Dean have done since they have been hunters.

Not that I think Ruby is good, just it would be wise to do to try and show that you were. Easier to get in with Sam.

Am I the only one seeing Castiel as the main villain this time around? Or have I just seen shows like The Prophecy one too many times?

Just seems to me that his motivation for bringing Dean back has to do with the breaking of a seal more than genuinely needing his help in protecting them. To paraphase Dogma, Castiel could have tapped anyone. So why Dean? And why use a name reminescent of Cassiel without actually using it (which I'm sure is public domain)?

No, there are others who are suspicious of Castiel.

Mswood, I order you to stop worrying. Last night was a 2 hour Grey's premiere, a 2 hour Survivor premiere that cut into our show, and the Office premiere. It'll be fine. Privileged is the show that's going to get yanked off the air by midseason. Besides, Supernatural will be the only network show on against the VP debates next Thursday. They're moving up the episode where Dean meets young John to next Thursday. They've learned from the Route 666 debacle.

Oh its not all bad, only three episodes last year scored higher and one was just barely by 3.178 so.

What rocked was Dean telling Castiel he'd kick his ass if he said that God worked in mysterious ways. :guffaw:
Especially his little look to himself right after, where his inner voice was saying "Wow. You just promised to kick an angel's ass."

So, continuing with the new direction then, completely ignoring season 3 as far as I can tell. No hint of Lilith wanting to kickstart the Apocalypse in season 3, just of wanting to kill Sam because he was YED's inheritor. So where did the apocalypse angle come from all of a sudden? I want some retconning in the episodes to come, please, to make this feel like it was planned all along. :vulcan:

Also, if they're going to do flashbacks within the episode proper, why the fuck do they need 10 minutes of fucking previouslies at the beginning of every single fucking episode? We have memories, people! :klingon:

Well in fairness they did bring up Lucifer last year (briefly) and as for Lilith we never knew what here plan was (or YED's for that matter). And we heard mention of that fact that two factions were forming (for what purpose was never mentioned, mainly because the brothers don't know) one that would follow YED andby extension Sam and one behind Lilith. As for Sam Lilith didn't seem to be really obsessing over Sam (as a primary task to me) more like a thorn in her side type of thing. A possible rival to eventually dispose of.

So far no retcon has taken place, in fact the next episode helps tie a lot of things together (including some events from season three).

And yeah I know why they do the previous on bit (to make it easier for a casual person to watch the show and not be lost), but for the serious fan I do sometimes really hate the time thats lost that could be used for new material.

The only time I like the "Then/Now" recaps is during the season finales. "Carry On Wayward Son" is one of my favorite songs. :techman:
