Superman

It's kind of what Superman has done since he was created. Go into strife filled areas and help.

Yeah, it's a trope because one of the key points of heroes is that they help out beyond the United States; and the truth is that many of the major conflicts in the world are in countries with huge amounts of poverty with even greater inequality than Europe and north of Mexico North America.

Not every movie can be as good as Rebel Moon or Army of the Dead.

I quite liked these films, but I've never seen their PG versions.

The suit itself - looks like expensive pajamas and not a superhero suit. Rubbery, latexy and loose.

Doesn't feel like we'll get anything new.

The comment about the suit is about the only thing i agree with you. God i hate the red underwear, it looks so goofy and dumb. Too bad Gunn was not able to move beyond the reverence and update the design of the suit.

Wanting something new based on a 2.12 minute teaser ( not even a full trailer that might give an indication about story) is a "slight" stretch - we only dipped our toe into this movie and universe with this teaser and it is WAY too premature to make some definitive statements like yours.

I figure we might get a full trailer with Superbow 2025, that might reveal a bit more.

I like the new suit except I do agree with one aspect and that it is kind of to baggy. The design though is great and old fashioned IMO.

The trunks/underwear were always my least favorite part of the Christopher Reeve suit but like Santa Kang I just can't picture a trunkless Superman costume that looks good. It's the sacrifice we have to make to have a costume that looks, well, "correct" for the character. Red trunks that are offset by the yellow belt.

If Superman isn't wearing his underwear on the outside of his tights then a Superman costume can never be great.
Certainly there's never been a good costume design that lacked the trunks, nor is there any need for one. They're simply what Superman wears, and has throughout the great majority of his long fictional existence. No clue why people get so bent about them. It's a silly beef IMO.

I think it's ironic that we're on a Star Trek fan forum complaining about a costume looking like pajamas...

I don't mind the classic design with the trunks. I think it's what the character is. Like it or not, that's what people see in their heads when they hear Superman. And I prefer the brighter colors to the darker ones they went with starting in Superman Returns.

Here's what James Gunn had to say about it, BTW:

One of the most debated aspects of the production was Superman’s DCU costume – specifically whether to include the classic trunks. Gunn, who was “on the no trunks team for a long time,” changed his mind after a conversation with star Corenswet.

“David said something to me that really affected me,” Gunn said. “Superman wants kids to not be afraid of him. He’s an alien. He’s this incredibly powerful, could be considered scary individual and he wants people to like him. He wants to be a symbol of hope and positivity. So he dresses like a professional wrestler, he dresses in a way that makes people unafraid of him, that shows that.”

I'll never get peoples beef with the red trunks. It's who superman is. Far as the suit being slightly baggy, it might be because they are following the old storyline of it being created by his mother. This would be great because we've never seen that referenced in the films. He usually finds out his purpose and then boom! The suit appears from nowhere.

The trunks are silly so they should get rid of them. Along with the big red cape (dumb!) the blue onesie (what is he, a toddler?), and the stupid big S on his chest.

If they do that then he needs to change his name to Nakedman.

Look! Up in the sky! It's a penis, It's abbs. It's Nakedman!

I'm sure it'll be a fun younger-skewed movie, I'm just sad cos I loved the Man of Steel/Batman V Superman/Justice League Snyder Cut continuity and I wish that version had caught on more. The plans for the Justice League sequels sounded awesome.

I'm not sure, most of James Gunn's stuff tends to be geared towards an older audience, The Guardians of the Galaxy movies are the only movies he's directed that aren't R rated.

I wouldn't say younger-skewed necessarily. Maybe family friendly is the right term? I'm going to say that the mandate for Gunn is to make a movie the "whole family" can see like Star Wars, ET, or .... most of the MCU.
