Superman

The DC website has a nice article about the movie.
https://www.dc.com/blog/2024/12/19/superman-a-welcome-return
One part of the article reminds me of something that I have loved about all of Gunn's superhero movies and it's a trend he's continuing with Superman, how colorful they are. For so long action movies seemed to actively avoid color, with grey filters, and all of the colors that did get always very dark and dull, but Gunn's superhero movie has always gone in the other direction, with all of the colorful aliens and costumes.

I bought this book, despite its bank-breaking price and its back-breaking size, because as the massive Superman fan I am, what other choice did I have?

Such a beauty. It's a bit of a pity that it's coming out now, just a few months before James Gunn's Superman, so it's only "definitive" as of time of publication. But there's always going to be more Superman in the pipeline -- which is a very good thing indeed -- so any such book can only be a snapshot in time. And since you gotta draw the line somewhere, this book is a fantastic and extravagantly gorgeous record of Superman's history as of 2024. We'll worry about the character's next 86 years some other time. :)

I didn't watch the video you posted, but I did watch a shorter one on Amazon, and that looks pretty cool. The hardcover versions is just to big for me to actually read, but there is a $20.00 Kindle version that could be worth reading.

Well, I mean, you do you, but Kindle is not exactly going to be the same experience as the massive coffee-table sized photos and illos in the physical book. This is more a showpiece than something that can be properly experienced on an ebook screen. (One also does not watch Lawrence of Arabia on one's phone. ;) )

Yeah, I'll miss out on the extras, but I'm mainly interested in the text itself so I'm OK with that.

True. But kindle is also an app on my computer and I can use my 43” 4K HDR monitor to view images from an e-book and also use a projector for even bigger images (usually maps or other illustrations in my classroom).

Don’t get me wrong. I love a good illustrated coffee table book, and books in general (I own several thousand books—occupational hazard for historians) but I’d be lying if I didn’t acknowledge the ways e-books (mostly Kindle in my case) have been helpful and convenient (including financially).

I loathe the things no matter the book, but I'm a Luddite that way.
That’s fine, of course. No one should be forced to use one. I certainly prefer a physical book. But being able to show text on screen in class, complete with highlights and images, instead of photocopies, is a persuasive professional use case. For a long time I resisted using it for pleasure reading but, eventually, the ability to carry many books on vacation in such a compact format seduced me to the dark side. (My arthritic joints and my wallet were in on the brain washing ;) ). In any case, whatever the format, seems like an interesting tome.

I can see the classroom display thing. Very different context and application than reading for pleasure, however. But in any case, it's just my (strong) personal preference.

Think I'm older than either of you, but apparently less decrepit. :p

Anyway, I rely on a secret ancient technology when it comes to print size, known as "moving the book closer to or farther away from your face."

Also known as using the manual zoom feature.

Unfortunately for some, the length of the arms needs to be extended for it to work. (EDIT: Sorry--didn't read Ovation's post first.)

I don’t have to change my reading angle or comfort. :p
