Superman

This post has aged horribly.

Sorry, not sorry.
Don't you remember there were a few posters who hated Tyler's Superman because he lost a fight to girl?
Nope.

I never saw the "fight" and had no opinion as I wasn't watchcing whatever show that was on. My problem was with the actor himself. I didn't believe him as Superman.

Don't jump to conclusions about motivations just because an opinion is not in line with your own. That was years ago and I still stand by my opinion.

So there. :techman:

I'm fine enough with Henry Cavill. I just don't like most of the movies where he's Superman.

A good actor who's not terribly well served by DCEU material. He's better than the stories he's placed in.

I have no clue what you're even talking about--I went back several pages to find out whatever post I was supposed to have been replying to. (Yes, I'm probably just missing it.) Anyway, the second season fight between Superman and Supergirl was a thing that kept getting brought up for years afterward--and other than Crisis, it was Tyler's major moment as Superman prior to his own series. And that original "this is my Superman" post (just realized this was yours, right?) was pretty judgmental at the time (especially knowing that you haven't even seen some of his most significant Supergirl episodes). And it has aged really poorly. Tyler will be remembered as one of the greatest Superman performances ever. In fact, I've liked all the Supermen we've had over the years, except Dean Cain's version. And I've never seen the Superboy series or the pre-George Reeves.

I never saw the theatrical serials, but to me, this is Superman:

One does not need to watch something to have an opinion on it. ;)

I didn’t either. Watching him in Supergirl, I really disliked the actor and the job he did. Watching Superman & Lois, he is much better in the role.

But you loved or, or at least liked, all the other Superman actors?

I'm more of a casual Superman fan. I haven't found any of them offensive. Some are clearly better than others, because they are simply better actors. Reeve, Routh, Cavill, Hoechlin (though he had to grow into the role) are all fine. Not really fair to judge those I haven't watched, like Dean Cain or the guy from Smallville, or those from the 40's and 50's, as acting style, technology and the world were simply different back then.

I loved Hoechlin from the first moment he opened his mouth, as Clark on the phone with Perry White, in the second season premiere of Supergirl. He felt immediately like the actor I had been waiting for in the role -- like the sun bursting through the clouds of the character's then-current cinematic iteration. (No offense to that version's fans. This is just my personal take.) That first two-part appearance was everything I could have hoped for and more, and Hoechlin never let me down through his subsequent Arrowverse appearances, and continuing into Superman & Lois. And the wonderful Bitsie Tulloch proved to be his perfect partner, ultimately becoming my favorite live-action Lois Lane to date.

Was VERY happy with the updated suit on S&L, but otherwise he was great from day one.

Just watched a Talkville where one of the Smallville Producers said very politely that Hank Cavill was a terrible Superman, and that Tommy Welling did a much better job.

You know how Worf as a child broke some kid's skull open, who then died, while they were competing for a ball during a soccer match?

Something Brightburnishly similar to that had to have happened to Cavill's Superman to have him so damn insular and devoid of any marvel.

The only thing holding every other Superman back from being Omniman, is that they are still guilty from kicking a hole in their crib as a baby.

That seems a bit silly -- though really, what else would you expect one of the show's producers to say, on a podcast co-hosted by Welling?

IMO, Welling was one of Smallville's weaker acting links.

Such dumbassery invalidated the Smallville producer's comment. Cavill's the best Superman ever set before cameras, while Welling was....something else--some knock-off from 1990s Spelling-styled young adult series.

Cavill was a good Superman stuck in bad movies. I do like Welling though it is crazy with how strict he was with the no tights rule.
