Superman

In the wake of the "sexual revolution," the ratings board (and society at large) was a lot less uptight about such stuff. See also the nudity and other sexualized content of the PG-rated Logan's Run.
Logan's Run was repeatedly sent back for edits to avoid the R rating, centering on the ice sculpture scene with Logan and Jessica nearly or completely nude, and other scenes from the Love Shop sequence which were front and center with its purpose. The board was still very uptight about sexuality in that period (1976).

There were of course limits for a PG rating -- hence the existence of R -- but you'd never get Logan's Run in its current form passed with a PG today.

If you go on to YouTube and type in 'Logan's Run Deleted Scenes', it will take you to a YouTube Channel named 'Great Hall 75', where the host has recreated the missing scenes using audio and stills from the movie. All told, the missing scenes add up to about 25 minutes' worth of footage.

It's not the dumpster fire many think it is. It's the weakest of the first three films by a mile, but it has its charms and Christopher Reeve is at his most confident in the roles of both Superman and Clark Kent in this movie. The Smallville and Lana Lang scenes make the movie worth watching even if the Robert Vaughn and computer warfare stuff bores or annoys you.
The junkyard scene was one of the greatest things I saw in movies as a kid. To this day it sometimes makes me a little emotional just thinking of how it ends. And despite the relative schlockiness of the rest of the film there's really more going on in that sequence than one might expect from kiddie fare. I mean, it's Jungian. He literally separates off his bad side and kills it.

It occurs to me (with horror) that it took forty years from Superman's creation until Superman The Movie.

And now it's been forty-six years since that film...and I'm still waiting for another truly great live-action Superman movie. No pressure, Gunn.

For anyone about to scream about how much they love Superman II, save your breath. ;)

Can I say how much I love Superman and the Mole-Men (13 years after the character's creation)? :p

I personally fear that Gunn may have hobbled his chances to make a definitive Superman film to rival Donner's right of the gate, by his decision to instead make it a "Superman and half the DC universe" film. But I'm hoping he'll prove my doubts unwarranted.

This is definitely my biggest qualm with what I've seen so far. Like you, I look forward to being proven wrong.

Superman has been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember.

I never saw the theatrical serials, but to me, this is Superman:

George Reeves was my childhood Superman. In the early 60s, I had the Superman pajamas and I'd climb up on furniture to jump off and let my cape fly. I'm in Medicare territory now, and my family still ribs me about it.

To me, this is Superman:

In December 1978, Christopher Reeve renewed my belief that a man could fly.

To me, this is Superman:

In 2006, Brandon Routh did an awesome job of carrying the torch, and this year slammed it again.

To me, this is Superman:

2013's Man of Steel showed another take on the Superman story.

Not quite my Superman, but close enough:

Now, in the Supergirl continuity Superman is something else.

This is not my Superman:

Sorry, not sorry. :techman:
This post has aged horribly.

Sorry, not sorry.

Silly Kal-El. He assumed Kryptonian men automatically had super-upper-body strength.;)

Mon-El beat Superboy once in a LEGION OF SUPERHEROES comic. Perhaps he might best Supergirl. But there goes at least half the readership.
