Superman

I felt Hoechlin brought some charm and charisma to the character
You felt correctly.
Also, the fight he lost to Supergirl both were practically out on their feet, and he took a tired swing and left himself open to that uppercut. The fight was a 50/50 and could have gone either way he made a mistake and she took advantage of it.
Also correct, though from the years of man-child tears over it, you'd think she wiped the floor with him.

My feelings with Superman is he hasn't not been written well in connection to his legendary status. I mean in terms of personality and being humble and all that stuff they have nailed it IMO though Superman is a character that I think have said before doesn't work well as a secondary character in someone elses story. It does take away form the character. When you write him as a random superhero instead of THE superhero, the granddaddy of them all who was basically the first superhero it doesn't really feel right.

Like in Crisis it seems strange to see Superman just sort of standing in the background were he might as well be Killer Frost or Atom or any of the other more regular variety superheroes on the show. As for the fight I don't mind she won but he should have made a bigger difference in the story or if you want you do that thing were the fight ends in drawl so the fans of each character sort of goes away happy seeing their favorite get in some good punches but not at the expense of fans of the other character. This is one of things that they have done successful in the MCU. When Captain America fought Iron Man they didn't have won win and the other loose. In the end they both kind of lost to Zemo but it wasn't some issue built around who has more strength or anything like that.

Not sure why Tyler is not considered a legitimate Superman?

Because he got beat up by a girl. I think that's the implication. Plus he said he sucked after loosing the fight and then looked down at his penis ashamed to have one, which he then bowed before Supergirl and admitted he was inferior to her and he was a big nothing or at least I think that is how some people's memories think that scene went. :)

I didn’t expect to like Tyler when I first saw pics of him for the casting announcement but I really enjoyed his Superman. Very much a modernised take on the Chris Reeve version.

I kind of wish that is how my memories of it went. :o

Is there a special director's cut out there I haven't seen?

I was thinking it was because of the costume--it seemed like a red trunks comment except that Cavill was included as a legit Superman.

Superman has been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember.

I never saw the theatrical serials, but to me, this is Superman:

George Reeves was my childhood Superman. In the early 60s, I had the Superman pajamas and I'd climb up on furniture to jump off and let my cape fly. I'm in Medicare territory now, and my family still ribs me about it.

To me, this is Superman:

In December 1978, Christopher Reeve renewed my belief that a man could fly.

To me, this is Superman:

In 2006, Brandon Routh did an awesome job of carrying the torch, and this year slammed it again.

To me, this is Superman:

2013's Man of Steel showed another take on the Superman story.

Not quite my Superman, but close enough:

Now, in the Supergirl continuity Superman is something else.

This is not my Superman:

Sorry, not sorry. :techman:

You are not providing any reasons though. Why is Hoechlin's Superman not your Superman? Specifically what about him do you not like? Is it appearance? Something he did in a particular episode? What? Your entire post is entirely subjective. You are just saying "I like superman A, B and C and I don't like Superman D". That would be like me saying "Captain Kirk is my captain, captain Picard is my captain, captain Sisko is my captain, captain Archer is not my captain".

I've only read one Superman comic story, the one that introduced Zod's son that Superman and Lois took in, but I have watched Smallville, the George Reeves series, the Christopher Reeve movies, the '90s animated series, and the DCEU movies, and I have no problem with the Arrowverse Superman. I'd put him right up there with the animated series, Reeves, and Reeve who are my top three. Smallville was my introduction to not only the Superman mythos, but DC Comics in general, so even if Welling wasn't technically Superman, he still gets an honorable mention.

You're following the new tropes wrong. As a Supercuck, it was exciting for his diddle to be dominated by a woman, even a close relative. So, the opposite of shame.

The above is ridiculous, he's just a nice guy who is gratious about losing a fight to someone a lot stronger than he is.

Although if Zod is 5 inches taller than Kara, then every time Clark tried to punch Zod in the face, he brushed Kara's hair.

Also how you fight a man and how you fight a woman is different. This is more about social acceptability than anything else, and might have helped Cark almost win, but when men fight men they hit each other in the chest a lot. How many dozen times did Clark punch Kara's boobs?

That's actually an awesome observation. Superman should not have been landing blows properly because he was seeing Zod before him--not Kara.

John Williams Superman The Movie score is my favorite.
