You think that Captain Murder is Superman?

    Weird.

The colors and symbol of that Superman costume are closer to Christopher Reeve than anything worn by Henry Cavill or even Infinite Earths Routh. Why again is this a bad costume and bad Superman?

Nothing I've seen so far is convincing.

If this is a "Supergirl is too strong and powerful and hogs the limelight from Superman" argument then it's not a good argument. The series is called Supergirl. SHE'S SUPPOSED TO BE THE MOST POWERFUL AND DOMINANT CHARACTER IN THE SHOW.

Helen Slater could kick my ass. That still doesn't make that Superman a bad one.

Even Superman is smart enough to know that the woman always wins the fight.

Hoechlin was very well-received in his initial appearances on Supergirl, and deservedly so. I was delighted. Combined with writing that understood the character, Hoechlin's performance gave me a screen Superman I could unreservedly embrace.

Unfortunately, and unjustifiably, a certain contingent of fans has turned against Hoechlin over his subsequent appearances. They're mainly folks with a very macho-crotch view of Superman, who tend to describe him as a "badass." (Properly characterized, Superman tends to describe himself as a "friend.") They saw Hoechlin's grace and humility as weakness and submissiveness, and they were outraged when their caped penis extender was beaten by a dumb girl. (One suspects there is some old playground trauma being triggered here.)

This sad crowd got a new source of supposed ammunition when Brandon Routh's "Crisis" Superman showed up. He's physically larger than Hoechlin, you see, and that is very important. So, so important. Because large is where it's at. (Or so they've heard.)

Meanwhile, Hoechlin has carried on being an exemplary Superman, who will be having the last laugh soon on his very own weekly television series. :techman:

All that may be true but the OP did not comment on any of those things.

    He said nothing.

    Nothing.

And then pronounced himself not sorry to have said nothing.

Even if he meant the looks of the costumes it's an awful argument. Henry Cavill is probably the most removed of any Superman from Christopher Reeve's classic look and yet he's cool while the new guy isn't.

No matter how you come at this it's one big fizzle with no corroborating arguments to prove the OP's point. Which was...nothing, I'm guessing, other than "newest guy is the worst for reasons."

That new costume is a whole lot better than Cavill's or the Infinite Earth Routh's.

    But that's his mourning suit.

The muted tones, and black hope sigil, are because the Joker killed Lois lane (in Kingdom Come), so hope is dead, FML.

Meanwhile, that red racing stripe down Holchin's side makes his super suit look like a jogging suit.

^ Well, to be fair, that's my red racing stripe, that's a photomanipulation I made in the other Superman thread.

I love the way everyone who redesigns the suit and removes the trunks then struggles to make the suit look right. Varying attempts at getting the belt (or added detailing) to break up the blue but without being ridiculously big, and all just because of the ridiculous "underwear on the outside" criticism. You can't make Superman's outfit look more realistic by removing the trunks...he wears a form-fitting blue bodysuit with a flowing red cape and a shield on his chest.

Every so often they take the trunks away, and they always come back.

I felt Hoechlin brought some charm and charisma to the character,
He's not a poor Superman he's just appeared in a show focused on a female lead and thus is a supporting character meaning he's there to make her look good.
Also, the fight he lost to Supergirl both were practically out on their feet, and he took a tired swing and left himself open to that uppercut. The fight was a 50/50 and could have gone either way he made a mistake and she took advantage of it.
